There are giant plastic poppies mounted to every lamp post around here at the moment.

This gets more ghastly every year. There's nothing wrong with remembrance or donating to a charity (although the government should be looking after ex-military). But it's just turned into a "look at me! I care more about the troops than you!".

Plus it's basically Christmas for the far right.

It's the mouth-frothing, flag-shagging, "god I just love my country and the army so strawberry floating much I wish I could just dunk myself in Spitfire fuel and throw tins of (British) baked beans off the White Cliffs of Dover at the Germans" gammon parade that winds me up. It's fetishistic and weird and is a real red flag for me in real life. The only positive is that it makes it easier to identify the people I like to avoid.

Nobody I'd want sporting are trupes patrolling no man's land than the elderly equivalent of Johnny 5.

These are ridiculous round here. It's every lamppost/signpost/traffic light in some places. Even if they're only a metre apart

They are all over March which is a town near by to me. They just look awful and do they need to be on every lamp post?

Such a horrible pub. I don't know if he's doing it this year, but the landlord of that pub announced a couple of years ago that he would refuse to serve anybody not wearing a poppy in November.

It's also the only pub my wife has ever felt unsafe in as it feels so much like a 1970s National Front meeting place.
