It all started going downhill when the USA started casting British actors in lead parts (rather than just the show stealing villain).

"We" got too big for our boots.

That's like a river of blood is literally filling up the top room and pouring out the window like a letterbox. :lol: :dread:

There’s an awful lot of fireworks going off tonight, almost on a par with Bonfire weekend, that I’m starting to wonder if there’s people out there trying to recreate the Blitz or something.

‘And this is what Nanny Pat went through…’ {BOOM}

I thought that was usually October, but walking around tonight, the mist having descended, freezing cold, the overriding smell of gunpowder in the air, explosions going off everywhere, it’s gone from Jack the Ripper London to World War 2. There’s people out there in America that would pay thousands for these type of quality reenactments…

The date of Diwali changes every year.

Who knew, eh.

Celebrants light rows of traditional clay oil lamps outside their homes, symbolising knowledge over ignorance

As Alanis Morissette once said, ironic.

It's like the union flag, in the 90s ( :wub: ) we had things like this which were cool as strawberry float (well to me anyway):

If someone appeared with a union flag guitar like that now though, I'd assume they're some flag shagging racist banana split. Any split I see with a union flag ANYTHING now just makes me assume they're some BOOTIFUL BRITISH twat.

I love Oasis as much as the next man but if we're talking iconic Union flag from the 90s it's got to be:

Even at the time, Noel's union flag guitar felt, rather depressingly, like jingoistic bullshit. Sometimes, I wonder to what extent stuff like that, and the Thatcher-idolising Spice Girls' usage of the same iconography, inspired in younger generations a resurgence in the sort of shallow British nationalism that would ultimately result in the horrorshow that was Brexit.

I don't think it had anything to do with Brexit tbh, that came about for a variety of different reasons (including the fact that people were sold the lie that voting to leave would somehow fix everything), so i highly doubt a few pop stars using union flags in the 90's had any effect on that.

This is what I do, although I’ve seen QR codes on some boxes this year which must be a new idea introduced by them.

I generally wear a poppy. I have listened, understood, empathized with and agree with the counter. No judgement eitherside, I think its very valid and a positive that the culture around poppy wearing is challenged so that people who chose to wear one question it themselves and hopefully wear it for the right reasons.

Sadly, though I always intend to, I seem to be in the middle of something and the 2 mins pass me by (I then later take a couple of mins to think of the dead which isn't ideal). A nice thing; at the park run yesterday [which was at 9] they did 2 mins silence been years since I was in a big crowd (as opposed to office, pub (where it's only half observed), home) observing this together - have to say it was very respectfully and very nice.
