Level Creator DLC announced for Mac, PC

New Portal 2 DLC that lets you create and share your own levels launches on Mac and PC from 8th May, developer Valve has announced.

Titled Perpetual Testing Initiative, it's a free download featuring a "simplified puzzle maker" that lets you publish levels to Steam Workshop where other players can browse, play and vote on them.

Valve hasn't announced a console release for the expansion.

It's the second major DLC release for last year's rapturously-received puzzle sequel, following the Peer Review add-on last October.

Free? They aren't even going to charge 50p or a quid? Awesome

Of course not. Endless player generated content is worth what it'll cost them to release it for free several times over.

What's a couple of quid for a level gen compared to a freebie that sells more copies of Portal 2 at £10 or £15?

True, and I guess the console types will be enticed to buy a additional PC copy.

Welcome to PC gaming, where developers can give amazing stuff away for free without Microsoft/Sony telling them to monetise it.

8-) Play the game on ps3, trade in for little under the full retail price and get to still have the game anyway? Erm, yes please!

That reminds me, I've still got a free pc/mac code from the ps3 version as morrisons left two codes in the box when I bought it

Anyone want it?

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised terribly surprised to see the PS3 version eventually granted access to created levels, if not the map-maker itself. Maybe not immediately, but Sony have been pretty good generally about allowing things that MS would refuse (the PS3 version of Unreal supporting mods, for example).

With hookups to Steam inplace though, there's no reason why we might not see Steam Workshop make the leap to PS3/4, too. Though it might arrive in Valve time...

Judging by the fact that the price has been slashed by 66%, I'd guess it's the Creation DLC.

Just loaded this up to play some community levels. The '12 Angry Tests' are quite good, but I'm really stuck on Test 2 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=68539885&searchtext= (part with the lasers)

Not sure I'll end up making anything decent, some of stuff people have already done :slol:

I quite enjoy just making relatively simple chambers. Not everything has to be ludicrous difficulty all the time.

I self censored the release version of c-bomb, though. I've got a relatively young nephew with the game, I don't want to have to explain to my sister why his game suddenly contains the word "banana split".

It's still in there, the letter U is just an asterisk now.
