PostFilm/TV confessions: What have you never watched, heathens?
by Eighthours » Tue Apr 10, 2012 3:09 pm

Inspired by some recent posts in the DVD/Blu-Ray thread, I thought it'd be fun to have a general thread where we can confess the gaps in our knowledge of cinema/TV.

Which classic movies do all your friends endlessly quote, that you've somehow never seen? When someone asks you, "Have you ever been mistaken for a man?" do you not know the correct reply? Are you unaware that periods attract bears (they can smell the menstruation)? Then this thread is for you. Have you just never got around to said films, or do they hold no interest for you? If so, why?

Just like the embarrassing questions thread I started a couple of years ago, these revelations should not attract ridicule, and indeed, any taking the piss here will be frowned upon. Consider this thread to be like taking confession in the church of GRcade. Maybe other forumites would like to explain exactly what the confessors are missing out on. :D

I'll begin with a total black spot in my rep as a supposed cinephile (I think I have a few of these gaps when it comes to the 70s/early 80s!):

*Sigh*

*Gathers courage*

*Closes eyes*

I've never seen Raging Bull. And I love Scorsese. Maybe this thread will shame me into finally watching it!

Over to you: GO!

I thought Raging Bull is overrated.

And.... IMO.

Got that?

Scorcese wise, I've never seen Boxcar Bertha. I also thought Mean Streets was highly overrated.

Raging Bull on the other hand is fantastic. I think it's Scorcese's best.

Aye. It felt like a sixth form version of Goodfellas.

I've never seen Titanic, and will never watch it. I've also never seen It's a Wonderful Life.

I'm sure there are probably lots of others.

Since there's 'TV' in the thread title - haven't yet got around to watching the Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy tv series. Read the book, though.

Seen Smiley's people. I've heard much like To be the King is to House of Cards, it's inferior to T,T,S,S.

I have never seen Raging Bull or any of the Godfather movies. I have them on DVD as well but have just never gotten around to watching them.

Edit:

On the TV front, I have never seen Twin Peaks.

Glad to see more people who weren't impressed by Mean Streets.

A lot of things starring Marlon Brando. Seen The Godfather and Superman, can't really think of any others, or they just failed to make any impression on me.

Movies- too many to list. Most of which are sitting on my hard drive or in a list to download/record/Netflix at some point.

TV shows- Not that much. Band of Brothers is the big one, plus ER and The West Wing. Other than that, there's a few more recent shows I need to catch up on (Treme, Damages)

Oooooh, definitely make it your mission to watch that! One of the best series of all time, imo. So good, particularly on Blu-Ray.

I'll wait till this gets to about four pages and then i'll cherry pick.

Not enough Hitchcock is probably my biggest crime.
