I'm all for bigger avatars at the sacrifice of a Post count. It'll stop needless strawberry floating replies from certain people and I wont feel so embarrassed to look at the left of the page.
I'd rather have post counts than bigger avatars. At least this way, they're big enough to be easily recognisable without being too intrusive.
Besides, I like looking at post counts because they ease my fears when I think I've spent too much time on here. Some people have posted on GRcade more than I have on here/Gamesradar/Daily Rader over eight years. No wonder the economy's on the shitheap.

I often see people's post count, which may be something like 1283, and think; 'when did you post all those?' Like Commander Jameson. He posted in that 'why's everyone leaving' thread to say 'Hi'. So I my immediate response is that perhaps this means he doesn't really come here all that often and that his presence in this here thread is somewhat special. But then i take a look at his post count and it's more than mine, it's in the thousand(s).
I'd be happy with a post count of 1 a day. I think that's alright. But even then it doesn't appear to make sense. What if someone from the outside asked me about forums and posting on them. And they asked; 'so, what's your post count?' and I answer; 'oh, only 1 a day', they'll be like; 'strawberry floating hell, what? That's a bit excessive. Every day?' And you go 'waaaait, that doesn't mean I rigidly keep to a regime, it could mean I don't post for a week, then post 7 times in a few hours'. 'Well, do you do that?' 'No'. 'I mean, I don't think I post that much, but it adds up. I'll take a look at a post I made a few days ago, and it actually seemed like weeks ago. I scroll down the posts I've made, and a large majority of them were made in quick succession. I had no idea'.
Like, I stopped posting on Gamesradar for about half a year and my post count was still high, like 2 a day. So high. And rllmuk, 1.04 posts a day. About 38% of those must have been made in about two weeks. I barely post there! What's going on?!! (i know how it works)
