PostPoundland now sells new and used videogames for £5

GamesIndustry.biz wrote:The UK games retail space has a new contender in the form of value shop Poundland.

GamesIndustry.biz can reveal that the nationwide chain is now stocking a wide range of console titles at low prices and even has plans to expand into other games-related product lines.

Poundland is a High Street retailer than stocks an assortment of products from groceries and cosmetics to toys and homeware, but this is the first time it has sold video games.

The initial line-up is comprised of PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles, all sourced from the firm's supplier Music Magpie. The range will be a mix of "old titles and newer refurbished titles", with games such as Fallout: New Vegas and the original Destiny already spotted on shelves.

At present, 350 Poundland stores around the UK now stock these games, with a further 50 stores due to introduce the range in March. And, in keeping with the core Poundland ethos, no title will be sold for more than £5.

"This is an exciting new range we've launched," senior buyer Richard Brewin told GamesIndustry.biz. "It will include a mix of both new and professionally refurbished lines."

He continued: "There is a wide choice [of titles] available for customers, which will continually churn. We have always been clear that in addition to our £1 price point we would offer products at £2 and £5, allowing us to move into new categories and this is a great example of that - offering customers even more amazing value."

Poundland hopes to also introduce Wii U titles to the range in future, and is planning to expand into gaming accessories with controllers, power packs and similar items.

Quick, get down to Poundland and stick 'em all on eBay!

I did see some Blu Ray movies in there last Christmas; stuff like Alpha Papa and Eddie Murphy rubbish.

They've been selling refurbished DVDs and Blu Rays for a while now.

Got a couple of blu rays cheap from Poundland recently myself, picked up Ted and 22 Jump Street.

They also had Minions.

Not seen any games in there though.

Fair play, it might actually be a cheap way of getting hold of older games and controllers.

Have I missed something here? I thought the core ethos of Poundland was selling everything for £1?

This will actually make me go in poundland next time I'm in town to have a look

There is one pretty much opposite the independent games shop in Reading anyway (I think), so that's well placed

I didn't realise they were partnered with Music Magpie.

I use Music Magpie quite a bit. The quality of their pre-owned stock is generally always very good.

I remember them stocking this in the early 00s...

It's the only time I've ever bought anything from there.

I miss those budget range re-releases of older PC games. I used to get loads of them in Game 3 for tenner years ago. There were a bunch of different lines like Sold Out, Xplosiv, I think PC Gamer mag had their own brand and many more besides. I suppose GOG and the Steam sale kinda render them redundant now.

Hmm... My local Poundland definitely doesn't have these, but they could well be on their way in...

It's a shame there's no Wii/Wii U as I don't have any of the Playstations/Xboxs. :(

As a kid I purchased Sonic R for the computer from a pound shop (actually for £1) and it didn't work. Having played it since that was probably for the best anyway.

As with the sporadic supermarket bargains, nothing in the one near me.

My local Poundlands both smell like pee or I'd go in and check. I'm going to go ahead and assume that if they have anything at all it'll be really rubbish.

Might be worth checking for Xbox 360 games that are BC now. And Binary Domain.

I had no idea they sold blu rays and now with games aswell I will have to take a look next time I’m at the retail park, I dont think I have been in one since I was around 14 when me and my friends would get the train to Meadowhall and then ask the staff the price of random things (all £1)
