I ordered a cheap second-hand copy of WC2010 on eBay earlier today off the back of this. Looking forward to doing a better job than Capello ever could.
In other news the first fixture was actually simmed.
Day One
Brazil (PPM) 3-0 (PPM) Mexico
The opening fixture of the 2014 World Cup put smiles on numerous Brazillian faces as Neymar quickly scored a brace to nullify the threat of Mexico. Luis Gustavo scored the other. Brazil now top the group with Russia opening their account against Equitorial Guinea tonight.
Cheers for the recommendation BTW PMM - I've been playing through World Cup 2010 and it's really good. Only played six games so far - started out with a friendly against Argentina and won 3-0 so thought I may as well go for the tournament, then lost 1-0 to the USA Subsequently won 1-0, 3-1, 2-0 against Germany, then came from behind to beat Argentina 2-1 in the QF I like that they have other managers on the touchline, although I wish Capello wasn't there. I'm the manager, dammit!

I will update tonight if I remember, we have reached the last sixteen.
So me and PPM sat down on Sunday to get the group stage completed, and plenty was at stake, could we both maintain our challenges of our big nations, or would they fall embarrassingly early by the wayside?
Group A -
Brazil Mexico Russia Equatorial Guinea
Brazil (PPM) 3 - 0 (PPM) Mexico *SIMMED*
A comfortable showboating performance from the Brazillians in the opener in Rio De Janiero, with Neymar scoring two and Luis Gustavo the third.
Russia (PPM) 2 - 0 (DML) Equatorial Guinea
Equatorial Guinea managed to hold off Russia in the first half, and it looked to not be Russia's day when Denisov's penalty was well saved by the Guinea keeper. However, Kerzhakov finally shook of his World Cup hoodoo, and in the blink of an eye nicked two goals, bringing much relief in Moscow.
Brazil (PPM) 2 - 1 (PPM) Russia *SIMMED*
Brazil got off to a shaky start when Denisov atoned for his previous penalty miss, but the Selecao came steaming back with two goals from their varied forward line, one for Hulk and one for the much maligned Fred.
Equatorial Guinea (DML) 2 - 2 (PPM) Mexico
A shocking performance from Mexico which saw the Guineans lead twice, first through Randy, and then a great tap-in by Ivan Bolado. Giovanni Dos Santos saved blushes with a great strike inside the box before Fabian missed a chance so easy even Torres would score it, potentially screwing the Mexicans best chance of getting back into the World Cup.
Brazil (PPM) 2 - 2 (DML) Equatorial Guinea
A fantastic showing from Equatorial Guinea caused some serious blushes in Brazil Equatorial Guinea twice took the lead, first through Bodipo before Oscar equalised, and then again with an absolute screamer from Nsue who had spotted the keeper of his line, only for Oscar to score late to save the Brazillians. However, ultiimately the result wasn't to matter, as Russia had beaten the Mexicans in the other game to secure second.
Brazil 1st, Russia 2nd
Group B -
Germany Honduras Egypt England
This group saw the Germans face the English once again, with the game finishing in a draw. However an earlier draw against Egypt had left England with it all to do against the minnows Honduras. Luckily they pulled through and they will join Germany in the next round who topped the group.
1st Germany, 2nd England
Group C -
France South Korea Turkey New Zealand
France 2 - 0 (PPM) South Korea
One of two games that was accidentally simmed by the bullshit menus that are FIFA games, the French overcame the Koreans in comfortable fashion with goals from Nasri and Valbuena.
South Korea (PPM) 3 - 0 New Zealand
This brilliant victory over a turgid All Whites side saw Cheol score not one but two fantastic free kicks to send the New Zealanders crashing out of the tournament. Kim Bo Kyung added insult to injury late on with a great breakaway goal, meaning it was a straight shootout between S.Korea and Turkey.
South Korea (PPM) 2 - 2 Turkey
With Turkey holding the better goal difference, South Korea needed to win to qualify for the second round, and all was going to plan Kim Bo Kyung scored a screamer from outside the box. However the Turks fought back when Tore brought it inside cleverly and slotted in past the keeper. In a dramatic last couple of minutes, Park Ju Young had seemingly saved the Koreans with a great solo effort, only for Turan to take advantage of both a keeper disaster and a defender fumbling the ball to slot home into an open net to send the Turkish into ecstasy and the Koreans out of the World Cup.
1st - France, 2nd - Turkey
Group D -
Austria Panama Chile Nigeria
Chile (PPM) 1 - 1 Nigeria
A caget first half saw Valvidia taken off the pitch with a serious injury that looks to have ended his World Cup. Nigeria then scored through Onazi, only for Alexis Sanchez to immediately hit back hitting it emphatically into the roof of the goal.
Chile (PPM) 2 - 1 Austria *SIMMED*
Another fixture to be wrongly simmed (thanks EA), the game did at least see Chile beat the suprise package of qualifying Austria. The winner coming from Vargas after Ivanschitz had equalised for Austria.
Chile (PPM) 5 - 0 Panama
An absolute decimation of poor Panama who saw not only a fanastic hat trick by the main man of the tournament so far Alexis Sanchez but also two fanastic long distance efforts by Fernandez. Panama were already out but would have hoped to have done better than this.
1st Chile, 2nd Nigeria
Group E -
Switzerland Ecuador Denmark North Korea
A group that ended up as a three way tussle, but ultimatelty in the final fixture, Ecuador couldn't make the humidity work in their favour and Switzerland held onto for second spot. Denmark were far from comfortable but ultimately secured first place to the suprise of some.
1st Denmark, 2nd Switzerland
Group F -
Belgium Greece USA Paraguay
In what would prove to be a tight group, all four teams were still in with a shot of qualification come the final fixture. Despite flattering to decieve after much hype before the tournament, the Belgians did squeak into first, but it was the Greeks who ultimately won their last game against the USA to qualify for the final sixteen, as hearts were broken in the States and yet another South American team bit the dust.
1st Belgium, 2nd Greece
Group G -
Cameroon Italy Ukraine Japan
Some had dubbed this the group of death before the tournament, and an opening draw against Cameroon for Italy proved that it was to be just as unpredictable as first thought. As it was Italy faced Japan in the final fixture, but could only draw and would have to settle for second behind the Blue Samurai who had thoroughly beaten both Cameroon and Ukraine to secure their place in the final sixteen as the only remaining Asian side.
1st Japan, 2nd Italy
Group H -
Croatia Ghana Argentina Oman
Croatia 3 - 1 (DML) Ghana
In an utterly woeful performance from the Black Stars, Croatia dominated play, posession and the score sheet putting in a stellar showing wth goals coming from Mandzukic and Olic, as well as an awful fumble by keeper Dauda allowed an easy goal for Perisic. Sulley Muntari scored a late consellation, but this result woul make it really hard for the Africans to qualify.
Oman 0 - 2 (DML) Argentina
In what eventually proved to be a comfortable performance for the Argentines after taking a little while to warm up, Sergio Aguero scored a brace in devestating fashion to canter to victory.
Ghana (DML) 2 - 1 Oman
Another game where Ghana didn't look great, but ultimately prevailed this time.Andre Ayew hit an absolute peach from near the wing to score much like his goal against Guinea in qualifying before a shocking equaliser from Al-Hosani made potentially elimination a possibility. However Asamoah Gyan finally woke up with a sublime chip to win the game for the Ghanians.
Argentina (DML) 0 - 0 Croatia
Two of the most entertaining sides came up against each other, and this game didn't dissappoint despite the goalless finish. Messi made a sublime run from the halfway line around four players before finally hitting the base of the post with a daisy cutter in the best chance of the game. The result kept Croatia top of the group.
Argentina (DML) 1 - 0 (DML) Ghana *SIMMED*
The draw against Croatia meant that only one of the DML teams could go through. However there was no shock as Aguero easily dispatched his best chance to send the Black Stars home, but an emphatic victory for Croatia elsewhere against Oman meant Argentina would have to settle for second place.
1st Croatia, 2nd Argentina
THE SECOND ROUND DRAW
Brazil (PPM) vs England Germany vs (PPM) Russia France vs Nigeria Chile (PPM) vs Turkey Denmark vs Greece Belgium vs Switzerland Japan vs (DML) Argentina Croatia vs Italy
So the final sixteen has a very European feel, with no less than eleven of the thirteen European nations making the knockout stages. PPM has faces a tricky game with echoes of 1970 when Brazil takes on England (meaning I have England's hopes in my hands...crumbs) Capello's Russia face a tough tie against Germany, Chile will fancy their chances against Turkey and Argentina have a potentially open draw if they can beat Japan and go on to play the winner of Denmark/Greece.
Who will win?

It's my Russia, not Croatia against Germany in the last 16 btw. I'm still not over my South Korean heartbreak. would have given me a nice sim, as well.
Hoping for a Brazil v Argentina final (only if I win though, obvs).
... We'll wait for either of you to see the light.
I'm unlikely to get an XBone, the exclusives do nothing for me, and Microsoft have just plain lost my trust. Unbelievable considering I was such a 360 gamer before.
Tonight the World Cup will conclude. Will history be changed with someone other than the Germans winning it? Will there be the much sought after Brazil-Argentina final?
