Is Preacer one of Preacher's younger relatives?
Or just a lisp friendly version?

Aren't they allowed to swear on AMC? Cass not swearing... :slol:

Looking forward to it all the same. I mean I've only wanted a Preacher film since I started reading the comics strawberry float knows how many years ago. This isn't a bad alternative.

I would have preferred SOK to have made this topic.

Been years since I read all of Preacher but I'm very excited to see this as a show. Hopefully it doesn't get cancelled or toned down too much.

Based on the comic it might be best if got cancelled around halfway through its run. The first couple of books were good but the second part of the run had way too much filler.

Going by the trailer this doesn't appear to follow the comic all that strictly. It may be a re-imagining of the source material by its creator a la TWD.

Salvation was tedious as strawberry float. Hopefully they find a better way of introducing some of the more interesting bits from that arc (well, one interesting story related thing) while totally removing everything else.

"Hey Guys, let's do a Vietnam arc for a few months that adds absolutely nothing to the main story"

You didn't like that arc?!

Who gives a gooseberry fool about adding to the story if it's an enjoyable yarn? (Which I thought it was.) If you want just the story moving forward, no fleshing out of supporting cast, then stick to watching films.

What characters did it flesh out? The dead father who only appeared in flashback anyway and his buddy who only showed up to say that dead daddy was a top bloke.

Taking time for character building is fine but that arc didn't add anything of value and could easily have been cut out without affecting your enjoyment of the series.

Locke and Key had plenty of flashback stuff but it all served a purpose.

It's been a while since I read 'em but I am assuming hearing about the character of his father reinforced in Jesse the knowledge of the kind of person he had to be. Yeah it could have been cut out but with it in the story we know why he goes out on a limb for Cassidy time and again. (Only for it to them come and bight him in the arse.)

Maybe "flesh out" wasn't the right word but it added a bit more life to the supporting cast.

The arc was probably Ennis indulging in telling a story based within a genre he is fond of, but I had no issue with it stifling forward momentum. Not with that arc anyway. Wait. They weren't even arcs! I think it was two issues and not even consecutive ones at that.

Watched the trailer and it looks like it won't tackle the central arc at all. Also no swearing although still kind of interested.

“I don’t know that you could translate it directly [from the comic],” said executive producer Seth Rogen (yup, that Seth Rogen). “Everybody involved felt we should not — including [comic creator Garth Ennis].”

“We’re fans of the comic,” Rogen continued. “We love the comic. We’re going to make a show we like, so we hope that that translates to people that love the comic as well. But our first and foremost goal is to make a great, entertaining, fun television show that if you never heard of the comic book, you love. We want the show to be fun for regular people without sick sensibilities.”

(...)“What’s wonderful about Cassidy is he’s been around for so long yet he’s accomplished nothing,” Gilgun said. “He consistently makes terrible decisions … He puts an end to all this sexy vampire business.”

“There’s lots of violence and drama, but there’s always comedy throughout,” Rogen says. “That’s the real challenge and opportunity [Garth has] given us that there’s violence, almost melodrama, but then also we’re trying to make people laugh. We have characters who do really horrific things in one episode and then come back and do really silly things.”

Added Gilgun: “Everybody says they want too see something different,” Gilgun says. “If this isn’t that thing, I don’t know what is.”

They can remove the "sick" elements but still tell the story, surely. :?

If it's going to be so different that you almost wouldn't recognise it from the source material... well, I wouldn't be too upset about that. I mean, rather that than they stick to the source but then leave out characters/events you loved or thought were important to the original story.

Hype levels: middling.

AMC’s anticipated new drama series Preacher has gotten a plum spot for its premiere. The series based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s ’90s comic book franchise will debut on Sunday, May 22 at 10 PM, following the mid-season finale of hit Fear the Walking Dead.

2nd episode is 2 weeks later -

An encore presentation of the pilot episode will air the following Sunday, May 29, with back-to-back airings beginning at 9 PM. New episodes will resume on Sunday, June 5 at its regular 9 PM time slot.

I'll be yarring the gooseberry fool out of that.

I still have hopes the supernatural element will remain in the series. They either kept it out so as not to ruin it for Preacher virgins, or it isn't representative of the early eps and so they left it out of the teaser trailer. (Yes. I know how desperate that sounds on my part.)

Looks more arsey-facey. I'm okay with it not being 100% accurate.
