I'm just saying that it isn't the best sort of game to judge from a gameplay vid.

What's with the thread title, Suzz

I hope that's true. From my time with Fahrenheit and reading what the developers have been saying in interviews, and watching the videos we've seen so far, it doesn't sound to me like their priorities were in ensuring Heavy Rain didn't suffer the same issues Fahrenheit had. I of course understand they're different games, but it has always been a worry for me, I understand what they're trying to accomplish, but if they can't mesh the conceptual and narrative ideals with creating a game that is an actual game, and a challenging game at that (something Fahrenheit wasn't, in my opinion), then I'd be hugely disinterested. I genuinely hope you're right, and I look forward to actually getting some hands on time with the game, but the gameplay fears are more than understandable, at least to me.

I kinda don't get why Rik's getting such a hard time here :? I'm pretty much of the same opinion, Alan Wake seems to me like a much more bankable option that the game will be good. Heavy Rain is pretty unquantifiable, especially for those without the luxury of having been able to play it. It could possibly be astounding, and change the way developers look at making games, but I honestly believe there is an equal chance it could fail spectacularly. So I guess its lol @ BAKA inside too

Hey Suzz let me this straight, are you saying you were hoping that the next game from the Max Payne developers didn't feature much of the shooty shooty, bang bang goodness that was the best thing about Max Payne?

The best part of Max Payne was the atmosphere. The gunplay was a distant second.

Thread title changed, I thought you'd be a bit more chilled with it Rik

But seriously though, Rik knows Buffers, Sarge and I are only have a laugh with him.

Whatever fella. While you're off joining in the circle jerk about being able to make a sandwich for your make believe kiddy ("I made him a ham sandwich with lettuce" "Did you use mustard?" "OMFG, you can use mustard? Game of the forever guys") I'll be enjoying bringing the pain to bad dudes in the woods using my road flares and shotgun combo.

Thongings wrote:Heavy Rain is constant gameplay, that's kind of the point. It's a very different kind of gameplay, sure, but you're always in control to some extent. The 'QTEs' (for lack of a better word) actually work really well too, so I think any comparisons to Dragon's Lair or whatever is unfair.

Constant QTEs sounds to me like Dragon's Lair taken to the extreme.

From the video in the Heavy Rain topic, its basically an interactive story, it might have lots of different actions to take, but they are all scripted one way or another.

Not that this might not end up being great, but every game thats attempted anything like this in the past has failed miserably, so perhaps resting all your hopes on it being amazing isn't the best idea.

Games seem to be finding their silly fun hats again next year with the likes of Crackdown 2 and Bayonetta being real have fun gamer games.

Does this remind anyone else of 90s FMV CD ROM games? It seems to have the same level of interactivity.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Sadly watching the video it does. The previews read differently.

Yeah EDGE in particularly are devoting a lot of space to this game, I recall reading a special feature and at least 1 interview over the last few months.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

You have entered a small room. There is a Warrior Dwarf asleep on a chair next to a table. There is a door at the other end of room.

On the table there is some bread, a candle, and a rusty axe.

To continue through the door on the left, turn to page 326
To attempt to pick up the items on the table, turn to page 132.
To awake the Warrior Dwarf, turn to page 228.

326
You walk through the door and a large Troll/Elf Goblin/Prince punches you in the neck. YOU DIE

132
You pick up the bread, it is poisoned, YOU DIE

228
You Awake the Warrior Dwarf. His name is Tyrone. He kills you. YOU DIE

On the subject of Heavy Rain, I dunno, it looks the biz but the video's I have watched looked cak. QTE's have no place in gaming imo [well not that many anyway]. We won't know until its out but if you take off your sony glasses and read the previews carefully, there are hints that this might be not all that.

Whatever Bungie have lined up for the MP side of Reach could be defining, it certainly was with Halo3.
