- GTA DLC isn't well received - Rockstar announce the next GTA console game. Show first screens. To be Released early 2010. - Perfect Dark comes to XBLA with updated graphics and online play. It is awesome. - Rare develop an Avatar Racing (Diddy Kong Racing style) game for XBLA. - Resident Evil 5 isn't all that. - Halo: ODST is a bit 'meh' but sells by the bucketload.
PS3 -Killzone 2 turns out to suck more than Killzone 1. - Spin-off LBP game is released. It's a mini-game collection called Sackboy Party - Team Ico's next game doesn't make it until 2010
Wii: - New F-zero, Starfox and Pilotwings games are announced/released. - Pikmin 3 is released but doesn't sell very well. - Killer7 becomes part of the Wii-make collection. - Some kind of GTA Spin-off game is released/announced. - Resident Evil 2 gets re-made with the Resident Evil 4 engine - Thousands more gooseberry fool and casual games are released and sell more than the rare 'hardcore' games - Some kind of storage solution is released but it's not great.
DS: - Sequel to NSMB is released/announced. Either called NSMB2, New Super Mario Land or New Super Mario Land - Some kind of new Pokemon game. Possibly a remake of Gold/Silver.
- GTA DLC doesn't sell as well as expected resulting in the hasty release of the second DLC and eventually it's release on PSN. - Rare announce Perfect Dark 2 for Q4 and Perfect Dark on XBLA - Resident Evil 5 doesn't review well but sells like hot cakes. - Halo: ODST changes it's name again. - Killzone 2 turns out good (rubbish prediction) - Team Ico's next game is named and will be released 2010 - The game see's you play as a chain travelling through every big hole (including Hugo) in the known universe with a wise-cracking lock as your sidekick. - New F-zero is announced for Q4 - Pikmin 3 pulls a Prof Layton and sells surprisingly well - Killer7 is Wii-made - Wii sales fall dramatically by Q4 (I said this last year though ) - Sequel to NSMB is announced and released. - Mass Effect 2 tries and fails to reach a Q4 release - Heavy Rain and Alan Wake both get high praise from critics but bomb in sales. If anything, Alan Wake does better. - Sonic remains gooseberry fool - E3 is a lot better than last year
*Sony will cut the price of the PS3 by at least £50 by June, sales explode. *WiiSports Resort will become this year's 'the Wii Fit'. *The populace will express increasing frustration at the cost of 'having to' buy so many add-ons for the Wii thanks to Motion Plus. *Another independent developer will close its doors. *Sony will announce some sort of new PSP (either a brand new machine, or an update again). *Microsoft will continue its chase for the wider market and will finally achieve some critical acclaim with some of its efforts. *Fable and LBP DLC will wow. *But in general DLC sales will be low and not attract the attention of the mass market, leading to disc based add-ons. *Home will gain more content and start to build a regular userbase, but most PS3 owners will ignore it. *More cheap and cheerful titles will appear on the Wii and DS from the mainstream publishers, allowing them to bankroll their big productions. Many publishers will questions this strategy and cut back on their most expensive mainstream franchises. *Gran Turismo 5 will do little to attract new fans to the series. *Nintendo Europe will finally re-supply Europe with Professor Layton DS cartridges, but will not release the sequel until the end of the year. *Call of Duty 6 destroys everything in sales. *Halo 3: ODST sells brilliantly, but becomes one of the most traded in titles of the year when people realise that it focuses on stealth. *Halo Wars sells decently, but also gets traded in by people who didn't know they were buying an RTS game.
Interestingly, I found what I said last time - I've bolded what I got right:
MS: - I think we'll hear something about the next Xbox, but nothing concrete. It might be a rumour or a contract that Microsoft signs. Certainly not an announcement. - Microsoft to take the xbox platform portable - expand on Live anywhere. - First details of next Bungie title leak out. - Live Gold gets more features, because... - Live Silver allows some free play. - Alan Wake to be amazing. - Turn 10 takes over the PGR franchise. - Pricecuts introduced around March as Microsoft tries to take advantage of GTA and stop Sony from building any momentum with the PS3. - More community "Scene It", Singstar, Rock Band games introduced. - Bigger HDDs available to cope with a slew of downloadable things (from movies, to music).
Sony: - Some sort of in-game XMB will appear more regularly/be integrated in a firmware update (this needs to happen - thankfully Sony seems to have acknowledged something needs to be done here). - Resistance 2 and Motorstorm 2 to at least make cameo appearances. Actually, scratch that Resistance 2 will be out. This is how it looked last April/May apparently, so I'd be mucho surprised if the game isn't ready to be revealed soon. - Activision/Red Octane to cave in to pressure and release patch to allow Guitar Hero controller to work with Rock Band. - A simple and complex way of using Home (ie. a 'profile' version and a virtual world version). - Bundled rumble controllers, original sixaxis phased out. - TV tuner to be relatively unsuccessful due to poor marketing. - Gran Turismo 5 to be delayed. More. - Wipeout HD to own all downloadable titles. - More PSOne titles on the store. - More PSP-PS3 wifi functionality in games. - Differences between 360/PS3 versions of titles continue to shrink. - Team ICO title to be revealed. - Blu-ray discs become somewhat more popular, but fail to reach anywhere near DVD sales. - Slim-downed PS3 to be unveiled by the end of 2008. - MGS Online to really take off. - Lots and lots of DLC for almost every title... - Oh... and Europe manages to fall off the release schedule for something like God of War 3 or FFXIII which will come out everywhere but here by the end of the year. - Sony will introduce more SKUs for the PS3 with different HDD sizes (80GB, 120GB, 200GB). None will re-introduce PS2 BC.
Nintendo I don't think I made any predictions last year.
Killzone 2 will be GOTY and a million seller. Sony will cut the price of PS3 but only get a small bump in sales. Bioshock 2 will be 360 timed exclusive Mass Effect 2 will be announced for 2010 Perfect Dark 2 to be revealed at E3 for 2009 Perfect Dark on XBLA Avatar Racer on 360 Avatar Mini game collections to arrive New Zelda game announced Starfox Wii announced 360 Valhalla "lite" revealed for 2009 with wireless built in. PSP software to dwindle further Pro Evolution to return to the top of the football tree in style Full 360 games to be sold over XBL Gold live subscription scrapped but content prices increase. Wii Sports Resort to be crap Red Steel 2 with motion plus to actually be decent. The Conduit to bomb hard. Mad World to be all style and no gameplay.
Rik and Goats predictions seem like safe bets to me (though Killzone 2 won't be gooseberry fool Goat) I'm finding it hard to believe that we'll see a new Starfox next year though.
Goat of Christmas Past wrote:Xbox 360: - Rare develop an Avatar Racing (Diddy Kong Racing style) game for XBLA.
That's a genius idea,if you could see your Live pals in their cars.
Halo:ODST will be the 360's GotY
Killzone 2 and Heavy Rain won't help the PS3. The machine will continue to struggle saleswise until late '09. A price cut along with God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 do the business.
LBP becomes the best selling PS3 title to date.
A new as yet unknown Nintendo IP does MASSIVE sales.
After some tweaks and additional content, HOME surprises everyone, is a success.
One GRcade member joins Nintendo and punches several key staff in the face. A revolution is then declared, with Luigi's Mansion 2--borrowing heavily from the Resident Evil remake, while maintaining the charm of the original Luigi's Mansion--and Starfox Wii immediately declared on the cards for Q2. Said forumite then exposes the F-Zero title (already in development, see) but ensures that sufficient resources are poured into improving the game visually. The aforementioned forumite then paints the words 'Wave Race', 'Pilotwings', 'New Mario Wii RPG' and 'Do something about it' on the walls--in blood--and then promptly quits and joins Capcom.
Resident Evil 2 Remake is confirmed the following day.
Operation Flashpoint 2 will inevitably get pushed back from its current summer 2009 release, until around November. And then perhaps again to 1st quarter 2010.
- Gears of War III announced - Metal Gear Solid 4 gets a multiple disc release on 360 - Alan Wake gets good reviews but does not quite live up to the hype - Lion Head release details of Fable 3 (possible sequel to 2 in which you use the same character) - Rare announced Banjo 4, a true platformer sequel to the N64 games. - New Halo game sells disapointing amounts (good but nowhere near the trilogy), prompting Bungie to start branching out. - RE5 attracts huge and idiotic media controversy - Wii continues to sell by the crate load - DS "2" announced at E3 - New Wii Zelda announced (will feature less combat and more puzzles, aimed to be more inclusive than TP) - Kid Icarus is not going to happen, get over it, move on. - PS3 cemented in 3rd place as sales see little improvement - FFXIII sales fall far short of exspectations - Team Ico's game revealed, but not released until 2010 - At least one of the big three announce plans for paralell digital distribution of certain titles (testing the waters for the next gen).

A lot of you guys are missing the massive significance of an experienced, good developer gaining the Formula 1 licence. This, coupled with the recent popularity of the sport will see the game sell in insane quantities when it is released next year.
Not only will people who enjoy F1 buy the game but it will also appeal to general racing game fans because it will be that damn good.

I just hope they don't lose any more manufacturers. And I for one don't trust the current arcade geniuses at Codemasters with an F1 sim.
Crysis (or Crysis spinoff) announced for PS3/360. New Jedi Knight title announced for Wii, includes MotionPlus compatibility. Max Payne 3 officially announced, to be released on PC/360/PS3 in 2010. New Left 4 Dead scenarios released via XBL. Nintendo shock everyone by announcing a gritty thriller on Wii. Killzone 2 arrives to critical acclaim, but poor marketing leads to low sales figures (before word of mouth makes it an eventual success). Halo 4 officially unveiled, but only features Master Chief for a brief period before moving on to a completely new story arc.
Nintendo - Wii continues to sell awesome amounts in the US and Japan, but European sales head into a disntinctive slump as the recession bites. Analysts predict slump to spread elsewhere as 2010 hits. - DS Lite sales hold strong in Europe and the US even through the DSi's launch period, Nintendo disappointed. It's not catching on quite as they'd hoped. - MotionPlus (M+) to be integrated into standard Wiimotes, announcement made at E3. Won't happen until 2010 though. - Several games utilizing M+ are shown off at E3, but only a couple look promising. A majority of third parties, unsurprisingly, haven't had access to it even by then. - Kid Icarus is finally revealed, is most polished Wii title yet - looks and plays better than Galaxy. - Retro Studios reveals what they've been working on for so long. - Red Steel 2 officially unveiled. When questioned, Ubisoft representatives are oddly silent on the subject of MotionPlus. - Super Monkey Ball makes a return, gamers take a dim view. - Sonic Rush 3 is speed-tastic. - Rumours abound that LucasArts is beavering away on a MotionPlussy Lightsaber-focused StarWars game, and/or an M+ Indiana Jones title. Nothing comes of either rumour, yet.
Sony - LittleBIGPlanet mushrooms from one title to multiple titles on the PS3 and PSP, dipping its toes into the seas of more and more genres as time goes by. First non-platform genre game announced is sport. LittleBIGFootball/Soccer among the first titles out, said to be Sony's definitive answer to the Mario sports games. - Sackboy adopted publicly as Sony's mascot. - MotorStorm 3 announced with trailer. Looks wonderful. - Killzone 2 DLC announced. - PS3 owners get their Zelda E3 Moment. - Just Cause 2 delayed until 2009. - Castle Crashers finally heads to PSN.
Microsoft - GTA IV DLC flops. Hard. Nobody cares. - Slimline 360 revealed, to release in time for Christmas. Early batches have more faulty units than later ones will prove to, but this is not down to bad design as was the case in the big 360. - Darksiders: Wrath of War is received better than expected at E3, declared "modern-day Zelda". - Just Cause 2 delayed until 2009. - New Age of Empires game is announced, much to the confusion of all who thought it gone with the death of Ensemble. Looks like a cross between a remake of the first with elements of the famed Total War game series. Opinions are mixed, early media build is early. - Castle Crashers 2. OMGWTFYAY
Misc. - Empire: Total War expansion announced and shown off, PC gamers happy. - Valve announces Half-Life 2: Episode 3; the story seems to interlink with that of Portal (the ship contains an A.I. very similar to GLaDOS, probably a prototype; internal décor is similar to Aperture's labs too), the sequel to which is also announced and shown off. - AudioSurf coming to XBLA/PSN/WiiWare, console gamers rejoice.
Elfin Flummux wrote:Nintendo - Kid Icarus is finally revealed, is most polished Wii title yet - looks and plays better than Galaxy.
Really? It'd be the best game of all time, then.

I'd LOL my face off if that happened.
- PS3 owners get their Zelda E3 Moment.
Ooh, hope so.
- Just Cause 2 delayed until 2009.
- GTA IV DLC flops. Hard. Nobody cares.
Well, I think Rockstar would!
- Darksiders: Wrath of War is received better than expected at E3, declared "modern-day Zelda".
I'm excited about Darksiders, too, but it's nothing like Zelda.
