Crysis (or Crysis spinoff) announced for PS3/360.
New Jedi Knight title announced for Wii, includes MotionPlus compatibility.
Max Payne 3 officially announced, to be released on PC/360/PS3 in 2010.
New Left 4 Dead scenarios released via XBL.
Nintendo shock everyone by announcing a gritty thriller on Wii.
Killzone 2 arrives to critical acclaim, but poor marketing leads to low sales figures (before word of mouth makes it an eventual success).
Halo 4 officially unveiled, but only features Master Chief for a brief period before moving on to a completely new story arc.

Nintendo
- Wii continues to sell awesome amounts in the US and Japan, but European sales head into a disntinctive slump as the recession bites. Analysts predict slump to spread elsewhere as 2010 hits.
- DS Lite sales hold strong in Europe and the US even through the DSi's launch period, Nintendo disappointed. It's not catching on quite as they'd hoped.
- MotionPlus (M+) to be integrated into standard Wiimotes, announcement made at E3. Won't happen until 2010 though.
- Several games utilizing M+ are shown off at E3, but only a couple look promising. A majority of third parties, unsurprisingly, haven't had access to it even by then.
- Kid Icarus is finally revealed, is most polished Wii title yet - looks and plays better than Galaxy.
- Retro Studios reveals what they've been working on for so long.
- Red Steel 2 officially unveiled. When questioned, Ubisoft representatives are oddly silent on the subject of MotionPlus.
- Super Monkey Ball makes a return, gamers take a dim view.
- Sonic Rush 3 is speed-tastic.
- Rumours abound that LucasArts is beavering away on a MotionPlussy Lightsaber-focused StarWars game, and/or an M+ Indiana Jones title. Nothing comes of either rumour, yet.

Sony
- LittleBIGPlanet mushrooms from one title to multiple titles on the PS3 and PSP, dipping its toes into the seas of more and more genres as time goes by. First non-platform genre game announced is sport. LittleBIGFootball/Soccer among the first titles out, said to be Sony's definitive answer to the Mario sports games.
- Sackboy adopted publicly as Sony's mascot.
- MotorStorm 3 announced with trailer. Looks wonderful.
- Killzone 2 DLC announced.
- PS3 owners get their Zelda E3 Moment.
- Just Cause 2 delayed until 2009.
- Castle Crashers finally heads to PSN.

Microsoft
- GTA IV DLC flops. Hard. Nobody cares.
- Slimline 360 revealed, to release in time for Christmas. Early batches have more faulty units than later ones will prove to, but this is not down to bad design as was the case in the big 360.
- Darksiders: Wrath of War is received better than expected at E3, declared "modern-day Zelda".
- Just Cause 2 delayed until 2009.
- New Age of Empires game is announced, much to the confusion of all who thought it gone with the death of Ensemble. Looks like a cross between a remake of the first with elements of the famed Total War game series. Opinions are mixed, early media build is early.
- Castle Crashers 2. OMGWTFYAY

Misc.
- Empire: Total War expansion announced and shown off, PC gamers happy.
- Valve announces Half-Life 2: Episode 3; the story seems to interlink with that of Portal (the ship contains an A.I. very similar to GLaDOS, probably a prototype; internal décor is similar to Aperture's labs too), the sequel to which is also announced and shown off.
- AudioSurf coming to XBLA/PSN/WiiWare, console gamers rejoice.

Really? It'd be the best game of all time, then.

I'd LOL my face off if that happened.

- PS3 owners get their Zelda E3 Moment.

Ooh, hope so.

- Just Cause 2 delayed until 2009.

- GTA IV DLC flops. Hard. Nobody cares.

Well, I think Rockstar would!

- Darksiders: Wrath of War is received better than expected at E3, declared "modern-day Zelda".

I'm excited about Darksiders, too, but it's nothing like Zelda.

- Just Cause 2 delayed until 2009.

E3 impressions can be... misleading.

Its dungeons are very Zelda-esque according to previews, as is the demonic horse you get to ride around (lolEpona).

Apple will announce their home console which will be more of a Wii competitor but will not use physical discs.

Assassins Creed 2 will be as big a let down as Assassins creed 1 (if it makes the 2009 launch, no doubt it will slip into 2010.)
Splinter cell conviction won't get a 2009 release!

I am so full of pessimism.

A bunch of Sony-only predictions from me.

- New Ratchet game in time for Christmas.
- WipEout HD gets a few track packs then a disc-based "compendium" release for £19.99.
- LBP gets FFVII DLC to roughly the same scale as next week's MGS4 pack. I cry tears of orgasmic joy.
- LBP gets YouTube uploading feature.
- PSP2 unveiled at September's TGS or Leipzig.
- Team ICO's new game revealed at Spring TGS, due early 2010.
- PS3 software attach rate has a huge jump due to Trophies being mandatory.
- Home's party functionality to be added to the XMB at some point, leading to...
- Home scrapped.
- Killzone 2 a critical success. Sells systems briefly, then moreso later on when bundled with the long overdue price slash. Insane advertising blitz on release.
- Heavy Rain to be "7 awesome".
- WKC to be "8 awesome".
- God of War 3 to be released in Q4 and to finally kick PS3 into action in the US.
- Final Fantasy XIII actually comes out in Japan. I import it, but don't have a clue what's going on.

- The success of cheaper downloadable games for PSN, XBLA, WiiWare, Steam, and the iPhone puts even greater stress on the full-price, blockbuster game model. Game prices fall further and significant publishers put a great deal more effort into the downloadable space.
- Nintendo releases different colours of Wii in Japan, but they don't come to the west.
- Street Fighter IV is a massive hit.
- Nintendo announces two Zelda games.
- Sony announces a 300GB PS3 by the end of 2009.
- Pokemon Platinum is the best-selling game of 2009.
- Wii Fit dominates the charts at the start of the year.

Yup. It's pretty much why I think the 360 rate is so much higher than anything ever. Those things are addictive.

I mean, Linger in Shadows is like the highest selling PSN game all year (because you can get a bunch of trophies in less than 10 mins), and look how popular the trophy levels in LBP were.

A couple of those are fairly safe predictions, but I think you'll be right in quite a few cases there. I think the 'different Wii colours' idea could well be spot on.

I'm just going to make one prediction and thats that the game Trine on the PC will be great. It looks like an old style 2d platformer but with the graphics of today which could be a killer combination.

- Huge controversy will erupt over MadWorld. Public accuse it of killing Diana, causing skin cancer and Global Warming. However, it will be Wii title of the year.

- Sony spend a strawberry float ton on advertising and PS3 sales peak around mid year before slowing way down and losing ground by Christmas. Xbox 360 and Wii to sell evenly throughout the year. 2.5 million more each sold by the end of the year in the UK.

- Elite Beat Agents 2 released out of no where. Is amazing. You can now play as any character. 25 songs. Released along with DSi, which sells 1 million units in it's opening weekend in the UK.

A prediction that needs to happen:
- dev's focus on techniques like post-processing on PlayStation3 titles, albeit exclusive only games.

*Imagines a racing game that uses this these techniques...cars bursting in to flames with plumes of smoke on a curving fast right hander...OH gooseberry fool*

- Resident Evil 5 to split opinion right down the middle - amazing scenes on GRcade will ensue.
- Rock Band 3 announced and released in 2009
- inFamous to shock and amaze, but will sell about 15 copies
- Teaser trailer for Half Life 2: Episode 3 to be released
- the PSN will still not see an actual decent PS1 title, but then...
- ...they'll release Ridge Racer Type 4 at Christmas and I'll weep tears of joy
- Aliens: Colonial Marines to rival Left 4 Dead for true co-operative play
- Next-gen Jak and Daxter will emerge

-The Agency will really take off, it will be a big hit for Sony and will have a huge fanbase of regular players.
-Heavy Rain will look amazing but will hugley dissapoint commercially, but critics will think it is revolutionary.
-Killzone 2 will be amazing for the most part but will be plagued with patches and updates and people will move on.
-Mafia 2 and Uncharted 2 to be the best things since sliced strawberry floating bread!

Does no one else think DS2 is going to be announced next year? DSi is third release of the current platform, and following the GBA scale that would indicate that totally new hardware is just around the corner.
