I'd quite happily let this game take a dump on me :datass:

I enjoyed dumping on it, then the dump turned into a poorly designed monster which I was unable to kill due to poor combat mechanics.

To dump, or not to dump: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in Prey to embrace the joy and wonder of outrageously good game design, Or to take arms against a sea of imagined troubles, And by opposing dump on them?

Stay out of the damn thread, Taf. :x

Anyway, now that he's gone we can celebrate Prey's GOTY 2017 status. BotW in second.

Do you not think the combat is incredibly flawed for the first 10 and final 5 hours of the game and the enemies are just kind of dump.

I like exploring the ship and completing tasks in different areas but in the later game the loading makes that almost intolerable. Also the climax of the story kind of just slips out the anus of the game like a greasy gooseberry fool.

I mean I still really liked it, only just outside my top 3 of last year (though it’s a close run thing between it and a few others around that area) but it’s seriously flawed. At the mid game I thought it was fantastic, despite the very poor opening, and better than Alien Isolation. However after it got really frustrating at the end I came to the conclusion that AI is the superior game for its duration.

Still it’s jolly good but flawed game.

Very poor opening?! It's got one of the best openings of any game I can think of!

What was frustrating about the end? I don't recall having any particular difficulties.

The only change I can think of toward the end are the introduction of the Military Operators? A quick zap of the stun gun dealt with them for me,
plus like pretty much everything in the game there are multiple ways of dealing with them - not to mention just avoiding them if you want to go down the non confrontational route

Were there loading issues toward the end of the game on console? I played on PC and haven't experienced any problems, but I can imagine that it would get a bit annoying if the loading times started to drag on!

I can understand the issue with the loading times on console. I played on the XB1, and it was kind of obnoxious how long it was taking to load. I've had similar experiences with other games on this console. Not sure whether it's software not being optimised well or if it's an issue with the hardware, or a bit of both.

I liked the combat. It's certainly not the most interesting thing about the game though.

New Game+ Could be interesting - but since I'd only replay for trophies of certain types of mods seems odd.

Mooncrash seems odd. I don't want a rogue like (combat etc was my least favourite part). I want story etc...so that looks like it isn't for me

More Prey is a very good thing in my book, though as Hexx points out it would be odd if they have shifted focus from the story which was one of the strongest elements...

That said I think the combat was far better on higher difficulties as that resulted in a need for more improvisation from the player as well as increasing the chances of seeing interesting interplay of roles and behaviour between the different enemies. If they've found a way to promote more of that then I'd be up for a spin! :toot:

The DLC is rather good. I was a bit miffed it wasn't a proper 'story' DLC, but it works a lot better than that would have. And it actually does tie into the story pretty nicely.

My biggest problem with immersive sims (of my own creating) is save scumming, and this being roguelike and having no manual saving completely fixes that. The other biggest problem with immersive sims is the compulsion to meticulously check every drawer and filing cabinet which kind of ruins the roleplaying aspect of it, and is boring to boot. The hard time limit forces you to press on just scouring for essentials to stay alive, and you don't want to loot the place clean so there'll still be stuff left for your next run. There's a little too much respawning for my liking, though. Fair enough when you leave the area and come back, but new monsters seem to just appear out of thin air when the threat level increases.

It's just awesome having more space station to explore. I hope Arkane just keep making games like this forever.

Just block the aperture on the operator dispenser, no more military operators.

I'm not going to argue that it's the best bit of the game but like anything in Prey there are many ways to deal with the military operators.

Use stealth or powers to avoid them, block the dispensers, disable them with the disruptor, mind jack them to turn them into allies, blast them with conventional weapons until they're all gone (there is a limit to how many will spawn, or as before block the dispensers and no more will spawn anyway) etc.

5/10. Would not play again.

I'll be totally honest and admit to using a trainer just to actually finish the game :shifty:

In fact I sort of use them when I just want to quickly run through a game these days as I don't have much time to game and have a gooseberry fool load of PC games I just want to fly through.

Blimey, I had heard some positive things about Prey but it seems that you're not a fan, Brer  . I have the game on my "to play" list and will get to it at some point!
