Nah you don't need to play Dishonoured at all. The gameplay is different enough with Dishonoured feeling more on the action/console side of the immersive sim spectrum and Prey feeling slightly more on the immersive/PC side of thr spectrum.

Not played Dishonoured 2 yet, but I far prefer Prey of the two games.

I still need to do a Preythrough using the typhon powers.

I don't think you would know the games were necessarily related unless you played both and recognised a comparable art style (with Prey being much more towards quasi realist i.e. if you consider Disney realism versus anime like Pokemon). There are immersive sim elements to both games which are explored quite a bit more in Prey.

I finished Dishonoured and loved it but haven't played much of Prey. I switched platforms. Need to get into Dishonoured 2 which I only recently started (I was stuck in the opening room for about 2 hours :fp:).

Stock advice remains the same:

- Don't treat it like an FPS! Combat is a valid option, but in the early phase you're often weaker than the enemies around you so going in guns blazing isn't always the best option. Avoiding enemies, turning the environment against them, finding ways to get the drop on them etc. all of these are part of your toolset!

- Exploration and curiosity are your friends! There is often more than one way to skin a cat. Look for alternative approaches, other ways to get places or manipulate the environment to your benefit, or just ways to avoid enemies. If nothing else you can find plenty of useful resources by poking your nose into places!

- Tools not weapons! Pretty much every piece of equipment in the game has multiple uses and ways it can be used to your advantage. Experiment with things, see what reactions you get from enemies and the environment!

- Forge your own path! The game has a pretty solid critical path to follow but there's plenty fun to be had and advantage to be gained by going places that the objectives haven't necessarily told you to yet - break free from the shackles of the objective marker (turn it off unless you really need it would be my advice!) and take in all that the Talos station has to offer on your own terms! :toot:

Also remember to quick load every time you get spotted :toot:

As others have said there's no requirement to play one before the other. Prey has some more breadth and depth to its systems and mechanics - a bit more scope for approaching things differently and a toolset that is built with this in mind, but there's no reason you can't do it ahead of Dishonored.

I've got the DLC for it but never got around to playing it.

The DLC is superb, in many ways it's like a prototype for Deathloop (but IMO with a more interesting exploration of how a looping mechanic can interact with itself)

You have to approach it differently to the base game as whilst it is still very much about choices and player expression the mechanics of the "loop" tend to encourage more experimentation than the base game

I'd completely forgotten there was DLC. I never played that part!

As ever, opinions of the Mooncrash DLC vary wildly according to individual taste. From a quick look at the reviews on Metacritic:

hugely disappointing.

Good, but not great.

One of the fullest and most clever realization of the DLC concept I have ever encountered.

So... yeah. It's terrible and okay and fantastic.

That's meta critic in a nutshell.

A pretty meaningless amalgamation of words and trying to tie a thread through it. Is game good/bad, I must know the FACTS so I can enjoy it (or hate it).

As always you have to read into a review for the context. I've not yet played Mooncrash, but I should really get round to it!

re: Milner asking if there is a clear evolution in gameplay from Dishonored to Prey, maybe you actually see it in Deathloop as the combination of Dishonored and Prey? Dishonored assassinations and powers meet the Mooncrash roguelite setup perhaps.

Default steam deck controls are messing with my head. Anyone know why they mapped them this way? I’ve just started but there has to be a reason they mapped pick up to R5 and jump to R3, are the default buttons needed for something else later in the game that is more generally used?
