The sheer amount of strawberry floating loading screens in this if stupid. We will make you go through a loading screen for the lift, then you have to go through another to get out of the lift hurr durr.

Started this then.

Only about 2 hours in and I'm undecided. The combat is loads better on PC with mouse and keyboard, but still isn't great. I still love the idea of the Mimics though, even if fighting them is a pain. Talos is wonderfully designed however, and I already love the dearth of possibilities the game presents you with.

I'm excited!

Are the controls still bad on PS4 or have they been patched? I'm gonna "acquire" the PC version first to see how it runs then drop the cash on it if my rig can handle it. I've heard it's a very well optimised game so I'm hopeful. If not I'll probably go PS4 if the controls aren't gubbins.

PC version is optimised well from what I've heard, but is there a cracked version doing the rounds? Still getting that black texture bug that's been present since launch, something to do with the Live Mirror screens in rooms. Turning off Screen Space Reflections is the only fix that works :|

Good to hear.

Not sure if there's a version out there. Hopefully will be. If not I might just buy and refund on steam.

There is indeed a cracked PC version doing the rounds. I hear it runs flawlessly.

I bought it , pirating PC games is wrong.
Buying them from grey market key sites is morally dubious. I did it anyway.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I'm really keen to play this but, having been burnt by quickly-decreasing costs for a few new games, I'm determined to hold out until the PS Store price is lower. Opinions seem mixed but I just love the setting and the look of the environments.

Really into this now. Glad I got rid of my PS4 copy and bought this on PC, totally different animal. I did experiment with a controller on PC and for some reason as soon as you use a controller on this game it goes to gooseberry fool even with the stick sensitivity turned up to 100. I get stuttery frames and input lag too but with keyboard and mouse it's seamless.

I dont think this game was console ready upon release and I dont think it's optimized well at all for controller users. If you can get this game on PC though and enjoy using keyboard and mouse it's one of the best Sci-fi horror survival shooters I've ever played.

The steelbook/soundtrack edition is now £29.99 on PS4 and XBO at game.co.uk. It's a stupidly quick reduction and launch purchasers must feel burnt by this. I'm still gonna hold off, though, because I'd rather have a digital version.

Right. I have issues with this game

Firstly, this is not just "Bioshock in space!" it's actually Bioshock...but in space. Let me count the ways:

- The intro. Everyday scene turns to horror
- The art deco. Speaks for itself.
- One of the first scripted mimics took the form of an object coming down stairs towards me a la the splicer throwing a couch at you down some stairs at the start of BS
- The shotgun could almost be the same model, it looks almost exactly the same as the BS one
- There's a research camera
- There's a level set in a fake garden/forest
- There's an unreliable narrator
- There are, essentially, plasmids
- There's a hacking minigame

There's more too. If this had been released as a sequel to Bioshock people would have moaned about how it was too similar.

Secondly, I am constantly on edge whilst playing this. Not in a good way. In a FOMO way. Now, this could just be me, but if I pass a locked door in a level I assume there's a way to get it open. That's fine and dandy. In Prey, the way to get this door open could be 10 hours later and completely unmarked. It's sending my completionist side strawberry floating crazy.

This plays into the next bit: there are too many characters. During Bioshock's production, Ken Levine had a "massacre" of characters where half the named NPCs were cut to streamline the story. At one point there were 3 civil wars in Rapture, again cut to streamline the narrative. I always wished they hadn't been cut...until now. Prey has shown me what that game would have been. Every email has a sender and a receipient, every corpse is named, every character has multiple associations and connections to other characters and each level has both new characters and references characters encountered before. All of them have generic names and, in the audiolog portraits, generic faces. It's so hard to tell what's going on, who's talking to who and even to tell people apart. It's driving me strawberry floating crazy. I really want to follow the plots and stories going on here but it's so difficult when there's so much jumbled stuff going on.

For example, there's a couple involved in a main quest line. The sheer number of emails and audio logs involving them, and the jumbled way in which they were presented made it impossible for me to follow their story, which I've seen elsewhere held up as one of the best in the game. strawberry float, I kept forgetting their names until the end of that quest. It's just confusing. Despite all of this, the only characters who have actually spoken directly to me are a robot and my character's brother who's had about 3 lines.

In System and Bioshock, each level had a cast, and each cast member had a purpose. There was the security chief in SSII, mercilessly gunning down crew in order to save the rest and the hacker who gave his soul for intelligence. In BS each level had a boss, the meeting with or dispatching of was your ultimate goal in each level. Sure they were rounded out by a secondary cast, but those that had more than 1 audio diary or mention could probably be counted on two hands. Here, there's a minimum (according to the security stations) of 20 named characters per section, a large portion of which have several emails and audio logs. It's mental.

Finally the main story is largely absent (the backstory is muddled in with all the rest of the stuff I just mentioned), the combat is awful and the enemies generic as.

Needless to say, I'm not enjoying it.

:(

Just finished it (PC), and I really liked it. There was some irritating factors like the loading screens being to often and too long, especially when the game encourages backtracking. Also some bugs in the side quests made it impossible to finish some of them. On the whole though, it's a great game, one of my favorites this year in fact.

Did you not get the SSR bug?

Every time I leave the Arboretum, random items will disappear from my inventory. Which is fun.

I really don't like this. I'm going to forge on through and finish it but the combat is just to goddamn annoying, the level design is too sprawling and the story is too weak. There's nothing here that's given me any joy at all, and the whole thing has felt like a slog.

Disappointing.

Nah nothing like that. Performance has been fab for me throughout. Just weird scripting bugs involving NPC's that strawberry floated a few quests up.

Finished the game, uninstalled and I very much doubt I will play it again or even any sequels (unless they are super cheap). The characters were dull, the story was dull and the gun play was dull. Pretty much sums up all Bioshock games including Bioshock space.
