I think that's the current price, the email probably just shows what's going to be in it. The PS4 headset has appeared for 11.05 tomorrow, interested in that if it's sub £40 (it's been between £40 and £50 fairly regularly).

That'd be my luck. Only bought a 2nd headset 2 weeks ago! They are great though

What exactly is the point of Alexa?

I mean it's great tech and all but other than it being great tech why would I ever need it?

My mate has the google version and I'm pretty sure he only ever uses it to show it off to other people.

I think that's pretty much it.
I see in adverts people asking it what's the news or the weather and I have a subscription to The Times newspaper and I like reading so I'm unsure why having this bint tell me is better.
If I had any intention of turning my house into one of those funky smart houses then maybe this may help but I'm just don't.

Yeah, he has it set up to speakers in each room (which he set up very well to be fair, using google chromecast audio and cheap but solid speakers), his lights and the temperature controls. So it's pretty impressive when he gets it doing different stuff but I'm still not convinced he uses it that much.

Not really a big fan of the whole always-on-speakers-listening-in-to-your-conversations thing.

Well I'm disappointed. Nothing on my wishlist is on sale.

This.

The fact they want to charge you so much to put a massive bit of market research gathering kit in your house is even more insulting.

Doesn't everyone have a ton of devices that can do all this stuff anyway? I could just use my phone.

Cancelled the PS4 I would have just been paying 350 to play zero dawn.

I fancied one because sometimes getting up to turn the speaker on is too much, so if I can just say 'Alexa play Tragedy by Steps' and it happens it would improve my quality of life

Bought my parents one for Christmas. They use it as a voice controlled radio, and something to impress their mates "Alexa tell a joke!" style. It is an impressive bit of kit, and linked to a Nest or set of smart bulbs would be even more so, but it is of limited usage to the average person.

We spent ages trying to come up with the "saddest" things for Alexa

"Tell me you love me"
"Sing my happy birthday"
"Is suicide painless"

I'm not sure I could get one beyond "cool" factor to show off

We bought one (arriving today) as liked the idea of streaming Amazon Music and internet radio through it (cheaper than another Sonos) plus with the added benefits (laziness) of controlling Hive thermostat via voice. The Dot will be used as a bedside alarm clock largely. Both will doubtless prove entertaining for the kids to ask random questions of.

Plus, it's tech and we love tech. Bought Hive smart light and door sensor too in the sale. Can use Alexa to switch light on too.

Had one since March, missus uses it for Amazon Music. Always loses its connection over Wifi which is a pain in the arse (Its sat 5 foot away from the router) but I'm putting that down to Virgin Media's dogshit SuperLOLhub 2 as other devices lose connection to it.
