sawyer and I had a terrific PES session this evening! We warmed up with some competitive matches and then we teamed up to tackle random folk online.

sawyerpip v jawa
Olympic Lyon 1-0 Saint Etienne
Fiorentina 1-2 Lazio
Wales 3-0 Ecuador

sawyerpip and jawa co-op
1-1
1-0
1-2
3-0
3-2

That last match was a classic; real end-to-end stuff and we collaborated really well for our goals (and the celebrations  ).

I had eased off on PES for the past month or so but this has reminded me how cool the game is  .

Yes that was a good session, thanks for the games Jawa! The 4th game as Italy was a good one, after a tense first half we blew them away in the second. And yes the last match was a classic, I did celebrate when you put in my cross to score the winner! PES

Yeah, that was a strange game as we rather struggled in the first half but then turned on the style in the second... three goals against Brazil isn’t bad :) .

You played in a peach of a ball that I managed to get a toe on... I don’t know about you, but it feels just as good to put in an assist as it does to score in co-op mode!

I think I've finally turned a corner in this game after really struggling in the Online Divisions mode. I started off well and went straight up to Division 7 but things quickly went downhill and I was relegated back to Division 9. My defending was all over the place and I just couldn't seem to create chances, I think I must have only won a couple of matches in about 20 games.

However I stumbled across the Christmas tree formation with Everton that allows me to play all the talented AMFs (Rooney, Barkley, Klassen and Sigurdsson) and things have really picked up since. In my last 15 games I've got 8 wins and 3 draws and am on a 7 game unbeaten run which has resulted in me getting back to Division 7! Feels good to be enjoying my games again

This is a better game than FIFA, hands down it simply plays a better game of football.

That said, organizing an online co-op match is an absolute shambles compared to FIFA.

I've only just seen this, 'pip... great stuff! How have you got on recently? I was playing quite a lot but I have taken a break for December. It'll be good to re-visit it again in the new year.

Co-op is terrific fun, dmin - I've played with Poser and sawyerpip and, whilst it takes time to get used to the different playstyle, the feeling you get when setting up a chance or putting in a great cross is brilliant!

Well I ended up losing 3 or 4 in a row after posting that  But I managed to stay up, and I'm now on my longest winning streak of 4 so have a good chance of promotion I think.

I've completely changed my style of football in this compared to the last edition. Previously I'd counterattack with pace, try and get the ball down the wings and hit crosses in for my strikers. For some reason that just isn't working for me this year, so now I play a possession orientated game, keeping the ball in the middle of the park and wait for an opening for a through ball. It's quite interesting looking at the 'Play Analysis' stats and how they've changed since I first got the game.

It's cool that you've adapted your style, 'pip, and it's always nice when you make a change and find that it's helping with the match results. I tend to play around in the middle and try for a pass or through-ball rather than take the wing-and-and-cross approach, too.

Last night I loaded up PES for the first time since November. I like the game, obvs, but I just felt like I needed a break from it.

I played two games in Online Division mode, continuing from my previous placement in Division 6. I was really rusty but managed to gain a comfortable 2-0 victory away at Spurs whilst using Saint Etienne. Next game was tougher; I was home to Barcelona and my opponent was a decent player. I worked hard to get Etienne back into the match at 1-1 but eventually went down 1-3.

I'm not sure if that was just a little go or if the addiction is back. We'll see!

Played a few more games and I'm doing okay. With four games still to play, I've guided Saint Etienne to Online Division 6 safety :toot: .

Following that last defeat to Barca, I won 5-0 against Bordeaux, 1-0 against Chelsea and drew 1-1 with Juventus. Pretty pleased with that after taking a few months off :-).

I absolutely strawberry floating detest my relationship with this game :x

I'm hooked on online divisions, bouncing between division 6 and 7, every time I'm the away team the lag makes it feel incredibly sluggish and I end up resorting to hit and hope Pulis tactics...

I'm genuinely surprised that you're getting lag every time whilst playing; I rarely experience that. It does happen on occassion when playing against someone with a poor internet connection but - at least for me - it's pretty infrequent.

I'm in Online Division 6 at the moment although I haven't played the game that much this year. I played a few games a couple of weeks back and it was fun, though!

Seems to only happen when I'm the away team, I just can't perform short intricate passes or fancy footwork when it's like that. When I'm playing at home it plays like a dream, a beautiful game.

Also, what's with the dickheads who take the full 90s second to set their team up? Just us the SAVE/LOAD option :x

Yeah, that can be frustrating; especially when the sit there not making any actual changes. I tend to take about 15 to 20 seconds loading my tactic details and tinkering.

Just played an Online Divisions game and led Saint Etienne to a 2-1 victory against Barca courtesy of a 90th minute winner :) .

Edit: It is annoying that Konami still only allow you three save slots, though - meaning that you can't save your line-up / tactic details for more than three teams. I'm waiting for PES 2019 to include more slots... that are paid-for via loot boxes or something  .

How is seasons worked out in PES? In fifa it's 10 games and your standard 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and none for a loss. Then you have to get a set amount of points to avoid relegation, get promoted or win the title.

It's a little different in PES, shadow. In the Online Divisions mode you play 10 matches in a season and the points that you get for a win or a draw depends on the team that you use. For example, Barcelona may be awarded 200 points for a victory but Saint Etienne may be awarded 500. It's a good way of making teams a little more equal. You opponent doesn't necessarily have to be in your division; it's a random mix.

The points target for promotio or "staying up" varies; it increases as you move up the divisions. For example, Ive just completed my Division 6 season and I've managed to guide Saint Etienne to promotion to Division 5. The "staying up" target was 2000 points and promotion was 3000. In my ninth game I've just defeated Man City 2-0 and moved up to the 3184 point mark... promotion :toot: .

I've only ever played in Online Division 5 for a couple of seasons so this will be a real test :dread: . Gonna stick with Etienne, though 8-) .

Since my relegation to Division 6 I've been getting quite consistent results for a few seasons. With my win percentage at 40% I've been avoiding relegation each time but just keep missing that final win I need to get promotion :x

After my last session I was just browsing the statistics and rankings, and there's one player who has played 472 games and lost every single one  I'm assuming they're purposely losing because there's no way you don't get one lucky win in that amount of games, but what do they get out of doing that?
