Just played my first match on the demo. Initial impressions:

> The grass is amazing :slol: ... it genuinely looks great!
> Extra cut-scenes for starting the game, substitutions and end match (shaking hands with the ref team)... nice touches; they look good
> Gameplay feels slightly faster than PES 2018; will need more matches to confirm this, though
> Plays slick; no juddering
> Additonal player animations; when I scored, the player punched the air as the ball went in before continuing his celebrations

Right, now for a couple more matches. Am gonna try online!

Played online as Shalke against Liverpool. Additional thoughts over my first match:

> Online play was slick; no lag experienced
> Place kicks work slightly differently to PES 2018; I think the controls are probably better but it's gonna take a while to adjust
> It felt like the players were sometimes a little slower to react than in PES 2018; there were a few instances were players seemed to "stick" for a millisecond befoer reacting to the position of the ball
> It seems harder to create shooting opportunites!
> You can do "quick substitutions when the play breaks but I haven't tried this yet
> This won't affect most people but the improved lighting in the game doesn't really help colour-blind folk; I played as Shalke (blue) against Liverpool (red) and, against the improved grass colouring, the blue and red were a little too similar in tone for me. I'll have to test out other kits and playing conditions to see if this is an issue for me (and other colour blind folk)
> The music doesn't indicate the song / who is playing; I assume it will in the final version, as with previous versions

Enjoying it so far. Now for a couple more online matches.

More thoughts after my second online match:

> Yeah, the passing isn't as friendly as in PES 2018; you get far more misplaced passes and ropey through balls... which is probably more realistic. In previous versions there were options for pass support level so I guess there will be in this, too
> The players' movement is more realistic in that they take slightly longer to turn
> In PES 2018 you could press Options to immediately halt any cut scenes during the game; in this version it plays for a little longer before recognising that you want to skip it
> In the demo, once you've chosen a team you continue to play with them unless you return to the main screen. Not a fault as such, but just to make you aware if you're trying it out :-)

I like it. As ever, it's gonna take a while to adjust if you're experienced with the previous version. I will be there Day One for launch.

Edit: You can change the pass support level in Options; as with previous versions you can choose one to suit you.

Edit: There is no commentary! (in this demo, at least). I don't mind becaus I always turn it off anyway :-) .

Yeah, agreed, dude - although (as above) you may want to check pass suppory settings in Options.

I've played three matches and I'm gonna leave it there. Back to PES 2018 until the big launch day :-).

I do really like this and may play a few games online tonight. I love the pace of the game and the beautiful animations that have been added. The game feels very 'free' and I love the way players pass and shoot the ball into the corner. The presentation is a real disappointment - why can't they change the logos and presentation of the names/ badges on the screen?

The graphics are sharp, but nowhere near Fifa imo, which has much better textures, although the player models are better on PES 2019. I should get this on launch, but hope the Fifa 19 demo is out before the end of the month so that I can compare.

Not played it, but gameplay-wise I'm impressed with what I've seen out YouTube

- Pinball football looks like it's been killed off, first time passes going off target and AI doing more to intercept them.

- Touches much more realistic, in previous games regardless of how the ball came to the player, they were able to trap it with each, now it seems to bounce off the foot more with players having to make sure they get their first and second touch right, again the ball seems more like a separate entity.

- Dribbling looks more realistic, the way players turn, shimmy and use both feet to control the ball.

I was impressed with this, so many new passing animations, it looks so realistic.

Can''t wait for next-gen now when this is combined with photo-realistic lighting, crowds and cloth physics

Ok, I like it.

Played several games as Liverpool Vs Barca (just played rematches to save loading/team selecting. Never worth it for such short games).

It played in HDR, which makes the colours VERY vivid. Not sure if it's a bit much  I do like the way it looks though.

Also plays well. The passing is tougher, but it seems to reward my preferred pressing game (especially as Liverpool have the gegenpressen option on by default).

The physicality has improved again, though this resulted in my committing a couple of fouls that just felt like innocuous shoulder contact. Suarez is a diver :slol:

Overall, yes, I'm interested. Especially as St Mirren are in it this year. I wish the digital versions were cheaper, though - I'm far more likely to play it if I have it on the HDD.

Is there a hdr toggle? Its funny because the brightness slider didn’t have any affect on the image, so i suppose hdr is on?

Yeah, the Scottish League is officially licensed. The digital version is £49.99 (£44.99 if you buy £50 credit from CDkeys). I always used to get the disc version but this year will be sixth year I have gone down the digital route; I play the game a lot and it's nice to have it "ready to go".

Why is this so expensive? I would have preordered at £40, but may just get it on disk. I got fifa digitally and it makes a world of difference.

It's cheaper than most new "AAA" digital games on the PS Store, gforever. FIFA 19 is up for £59.99. If £40 was your desired price, maybe £45 is tempting by buying credit via CDkeys?

Edit: For folk who aren't fussed about getting the latest version, or maybe aren't interested in playing online, then perhaps this option would work well:

jawafour, in the PES 2018 thread, wrote:I recall a few folk here mentioning that they don't buy the latest release of the game and that they look out for the older version in a sale... well, now could be that time as it's currently £5.79 in the PlayStation Store.

Anyone else finding that they're giving free kicks away for "high foot" when flicking the ball on?

I admire that Konami are working towards having a physics-based fouling system, but this really needs to be fixed.

Write up of a media event from Eurogamer here. I think he's a bit harsh on the licensing front. It's never bothered me, options files are out within a week of release, and after a month or two on PC there's usually an automated patch to do it all for you.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

It's still hassle, though, and there is that perception in the wider gaming world. I think it's a reasonable piece. PES almost always has, and probably always will, play the better game of football, but FIFA has the money and the glitz.

I also have to agree about the menus and presentation. It's still lagging way behind - some of the UX seems to be deliberately obtuse.

However, I shall be buying it again because it's just joyous to play. Whether I'm winning or losing, when the clock reaches 80 mins, I find myself feeling a little bit sad that I'll soon have to stop playing. Every. Single. Time.

Oh I totally agree about the menus, they often don't seem to make any sense.

I think I'm less irritated by having to mod the game since I come from a PC gaming background. Also on Xbox you can't mod it at all can you?

When people at work find out I buy PES and not FIFA they give me a sad look, like I have to go to a food bank or something. Though for most of them FUT seems to be almost exclusively how they play, which is a mode that holds zero interest for me. I mostly play single player in fact.

I've seen this for £25 pre-order on PC, so I might bite soon. The price tends to go back up a little bit when demand spikes at launch.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Yeah, I read that Eurogamer article... man, I just don't agree. I genuinely don't really care about licences; sure, I'd like it if PES did include the official licences that FIFA has, but - to me - it has little bearing on gameplay. PES has lost the Champions League licence... but I'm not really fussed. PS4 and PC players can edit teams, kits, leagues and trophies if they want to.

But, hey, if some folk prefer FIFA, that's great. If other folk prefer PES, that's great too. It'd be a worse situation for fans of either title if there was to be no competitive game out there. Enjoy FIFA or enjoy PES... whatever happens, there's not really any point in slating the one that you choose not to play.

After spending quite a bit of time on this both online and offline i feel that its just too frustrating to really enjoy.

It takes an age for a player to get rid of the ball from their feet and so easy to be tackled. This is where the game falls apart and i am looking forward to giving fifa 19 a try.

Theres something not quite right about the control of players - they feel way too slow, for instance ousmane dembele can hardly skip past anyone as he does in real life.

Only finding this a problem in (some) online matches.

In single player it's very responsive and I can react quickly, online I find myself squeezing the controller more, similar to FIFA online.

Me and a mate had a go today. I like it, the ball physics and player control are very good, I can see why people would prefer it to FIFA.

The idea that Pro Evo is out of this world amazing and FIFA is the worst game ever made is ridiculous. They are very, very similar.
