Assetto Corsa is a garbage over-hyped trainwreck of a game, especially on consoles. There is almost no single-player content and multiplayer options are limited. PCARS has its problems but is more of an actual game than a soulless hotlapping simulator. Get it cheap for now to tide you over until GT Sport Project Cars 2.

Cute, but sim racing in general is in a real hole at the moment, that site I linked has extensive stuff about how PCARS has been a shitshow as well - diva developers accusing people of being mentally ill for asking why promised features never arrived, arguing with actual racing drivers who offered suggestions to fix the physics, that kind of thing. Too many titles are coming out missing features/basic functionalities from games which came out over 10 years ago; all supported by personality cult-like fanbases who will defend them to the bitter end.

Fairly unequivocal answers there, thanks.

So does Project Cars have a custom championship mode?

On ps4 id go with project cars because as mentioned there's more of an actual game there. Been playing assetto Corsa on pc recently and for hot lapping it's great, but the 'game' is pretty gooseberry fool and has a fan mod feel to it.

Also, I got to have a hot lap face off on project cars with a current F1 driver last week and won!. I also set a global top 3 time along the way while doing it :datass:

There's also Dirt Rally and Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo if you want to get virtually muddy off road although avoid the 'official' WRC games for the time being though. Finally for two wheels Valentino Rossi: The Game or Ride/Ride 2 would suffice.

True prime example of missing content is GT6 that has so many features missing long races which i loved in GT3&4 felt like proper racers PC2 does sound like it will have some good features in it and they have learned from their errors from the first one. The problems many have had with PC1 i have never experienced them at all.

Assetto Corsa is as others have said good for hot lapping but is rather dull to sterile and bland compared to Project Cars which has full day & night cycles weather effects massive grids proper championships & career which are features missing in GT Sport and Assetto Corsa

My version of Project Cars on the PC seems to completely wipe my controller settings every time I exit the game, meaning I have to re-setup everything every time I want to have a race, which is a right pain.

Even if I choose Logitech G27 to match my Steering wheel setup, I still have to then reconfigure the pedals and buttons. It's a right pain in the arse, anyone else have the same issue or a suggestion what I can do to fix?

Try deleting the profile directory or making sure it isnt read only. Google pcars profile directory to find the location but I think there is one in documents and one in install dir.

ah good shout, will try that out tonight as would really like to get back into this, but the current faff I have to go through each time has put me off so far.

AD7 - Are you just running this as vanilla through Vive or have you applied any special settings/mods?

I had this all the strawberry floating time with my G29 and project cars. The solution is to make sure the wheel has power and is plugged in BEFORE you turn the PC on. Don't ask me why, but that's the only way for it to not cock up like that. If you plug it in after it's booted, it'll work fine on other games but project cars does the thing you're experiencing.

Yes it's just the base game. Be warned if you're getting a vive for it that it runs like utter gooseberry fool in VR, I have to knock it down to low everything on some tracks for no real reason (even ones with not a great deal of detail to them) but then on other tracks I can run it nearly at full bar some of the unnecessary fluff (because the res of the headset means you wont see it anyway). For comparison, as bland as it is, I run Assetto Corsa in VR on Ultra everything bar some of the smoke and reflection effects and its like butter. Prefer project cars as a game though, even though AC has it's plus points too.

Thanks Ad7, will try that shortly. Cant believe it might be that simple to fix! Whats your current spec?

Falsey, i have an OK setup (i5, 16gb Ram, 1080 Gtx) so will let you know what performance is like, but think you have a beast of a system so should be able to crank the settings up.

I5 6600, strix GTX 1070 oc, 32gb ddr4.

To be clear, project cars is inefficient, those specs are actually great for nearly all other vr, just PC runs like gooseberry fool when it feels like it. I run PC from my SSD too.

Go on my YouTube channel, I've got a load of vr stuff on there if you want to see things at that spec.

I managed to have a go on PC2 at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend. The developers had a stand at the 24 hour race with four full blown racing rigs going and they were fantastic. Once I'd managed to get through a queue of bloody children who couldn't go 5 seconds without bloody crashing, had a couple of laps round Spa with an Oculus Rift.

Have to say it looked fantastic and the driving felt great. AI was a bit thick but one of the guys said that was because they had it set to low difficulty. Looks and sound of the cars was superb too. Problem is that I was playing it with top of the line racing equipment. If I do pick it up it'll feel rubbish in comparison...
