I genuinely do not understand, what's the problem? If the faster cars are too tempting then go...drive them?

I have, within the quick race weekend function. I enjoyed it (fecking hard) but it feels a bit odd and isolated when it's just one random race. I'd like there to be a championship across disciplines or locations with it suitably difficult that you can be first 1 event, then 2nd, 3rd etc knowing that to win the championship what result you need in the final race. A career tends to end this element, but you start with karts.

I'd stick with the game because it is good.

Time Trials are loads of fun and don't require a huge time investment...as long as you can easily get to grips with the physics model and have a good control set-up. It's a great personal challenge to get in that quick, clean lap because there's always time to be had. Tangible satisfaction from coming out beyond your target.

I think I have worked out how the karting series works.

First race is for you to memorise the track, and the second race is for you to drive the track with a massive ball of plasma blinding you as you go round.

I finally get used to the point and squirt of the Karts and the season ends. I step in to a Focus RS and it feels like a land yacht.

I'm liking this.

The FWD cars in this feel very FWD. You have to lift off to get the fronts to bite and kick the rear out wherever you can.

I spent aaaages tweaking the controller settings yesterday as snetterton in the cleo cup was utterly undrivable, no lock available for any turns and massive snap oversteer at all other times. Loads of swearing and getting nowhere I finally found a setting that clicked and it was a revelation. Suddenly I can push the limits of the corners, if I miss an apex it's my fault and not the game just ignoring how much lock I want. Maaaarvellous.

Thing I love about this type of game (and what I always loved about simbin games) is the feeling of a win being a special thing that only arrives through you nailing it. Gran turismo and the like are all but guaranteed wins every single time, whereas in this I'm in 4th and hoping to hold off while going for fastest lap for a nice haul of points. Do I push harder for 3rd or even second and risk going off, or net the points and keep my championship lead? Brilliant :datass:

Post your settings then, you mug!

What annoys me most about this game is that there are no explanations for the options in the menu. Some of them are far from obvious too! strawberry floating stupid!

Yeah there should be at least a tool tip description of the one you're messing with beside it to give some hint. The annoying thing being that some seem to be opposite in the value you think it should be, so I'd take 100% steering sensitivity to be the full lock being the full stick travel, but that's actually 0%.

The truly frustrating thing is when we had a go on the xbox version with the wheel at work, I stood back and watched a guy who'd never played it before take the wheel at default settings, playing the same cup of been struggling with and do a total ham fisted few laps, but still not be that far off the pace. I then had a go and was lapping consistently straight away.

Basically I'm pissed I can't use my wheel, which I don't think I've mentioned for a few posts now :shifty:

Just had my first win :toot:

Had pole at the first round of Silverstone international but missed a shift off the start line which let a guy ahead and I just couldn't catch him over the 8 laps, had him pegged at 2 seconds but couldn't make any headway. I'll take the 2nd points on that thank you.

Second race with the mandatory pit stop and I pitted from a close first, came out in second and absolutely nailed the out lap to come out just in front of the leader as he exited the pits. Fresh tires for the last 4 laps saw me hold a steady couple of seconds over second to take the win.

Fan strawberry floating tastic :datass:

Got my second win, Oulton Park, I haven't played that since Toca 2 on the psone

Abysmal first couple of laps sees me playing catchup for the rest of the race with some great car and mouse stuff later on:

Abolsutley love the career mode in this :datass:

What you said about gran turismo got me thinking - that game doesn't have races, it has overtaking challenges. You always start at the back on a rolling start, and the ai seem like time trial ghosts that you can't drive through. Plus as you say, the events are broken; i did the french-only cup or whatever in gt5 using sebastian loeb's citroen rally car and won by a mile. In this races seem more like races, and i think simple things like standing starts really help in that regard.

The career is great, it really makes every small victory feel like you've earned it.

Even when that "victory" is clawing from 12th to 8th after an abysmal qualifier.

Pad :dread:

Id use the cockpit if I wasn't say far back from the TV. I use it when I'm simming on my pc because I've got my nose to the monitor and its immersive but it always feels off using that on the Tv, strange disconnect for me.

Track map is for seeing the locations of the other cars, I use it like the Daytona radar.

Great videos Ad.

I've just completed my first season and the best race was a invitational focus RS race in the wet. The handling was brilliantly done.... I had so much understeer but after a few attempts I got the hang of it and rather than lower the difficult I had some fun racing. I do find the AI super aggressive and crash happy.

I was bored of karts so messed about with 'quick weekend' and formula cars. The handling was different again, maybe due to me setting tyre wear as 'real'.

Ad, what driving assists do you have on? I struggle with ABS off (constant locking the wheels) and traction control off on the formula cars was insane.

Ive been switching between the in car and helmet cams. Both good, helmet cam with the focus on corners is a bit weird.

No assists. But then he Clio is pretty forgiving, whereas the lotus 49 is a death trap to drive without them.

Impulse buy ahoy and went and just went and picked up a G27 and this on PC.

Not had a chance to play yet, will need to wait for the GF to go to sleep.

Stupid question, how the hell do you exit the game on PC? Twice I loaded it up, and can't see what I need to do to exit from the main menu back to my Desktop, so have had to Ctrl-Alt-Del it. :?

Perhaps one of the most gut wrenching ways to lose position.. Opening race of the season, battled up from last row of the grid.

Didnt even know that could happen.
