I took part in every round I could but I could never get higher than the top 300. I guess being that high out of how many thousand is good, but it's still 300 people that are better than you. Steam says I spent 25 hours on a single round which is probably what lead to my racing fatigue, got pretty burned out on it.

I didn't notice any difference tbh, but then I did minimal graphics tweaking before playing. It handled the rain really well, and there seemed to be more vr options you can try in real time now. It's great regardless.

This is a great driving sim... but not so great if you're trying to play with a controller. Honestly, I have struggled and struggled to get the settings for the controller set to anything approaching useable (setting all the dead zones to zero was a big help). Out of the box, the game is near-unplayable with the default controller settings.

Slightly Mad just don't 'get it'. What's the problem here? Is it that PC2 was designed for PC users with wheels and the console port was just a cynical, minimum-effort cash-grab with no attempt to tailor the experience for a market that is - de facto - going to be dominated by controller users?

*shakes head*

I dunno. It's just irritating. The actual sim is great - which makes it all the more annoying.

I played with a controller and from memory it took minimal setting up. Was ready to roll out of the box essentially, unlike the last one.

I found this chaps controller set up pretty good, Cal.

Looking at getting a racing game to scratch an itch, and I see this is only £18 on Amazon. Obviously it's a good game (going by the metacritic scores), but to save me time searching through reviews can someone just confirm if this has your standard career mode where you start with a (relatively) crap car and eventually work your way up to owning/racing a proper hypercar? Do you have to buy cars ala Gran Turismo, or is it different?

I had Driveclub and right off the bat I had all these supercars available to me and it just killed any motivation I had to continue. I want to earn my way to the top, dammit!

This is not what you are looking for. Everything is unlocked, the career mode is racing for different teams in different series. Forza is the last collectathon racer left.

Ah, but Pcars2 is a much better racer than Forza 7 which, to be perfectly blunt, is as dull as dish water.

Hmm, I guess I need to decide if I want to go down the collectathon route or the become-a-racing-driver route. I'll do some research.

The problem with collectathon games is that they're unsustainable - Forza 7 has over 1000 cars but the game is super rote and repetitive. GT has cut down drastically. PCARS2 is more like pc sim racing - a sandbox of cars, tracks and events to make your own fun.

PCars isnt about collecting cars. Its about progressing your career.

Forza 7's whole set up is terribly bland. Complete a mostly uneventful 3 lap race, where the only prime requisite is to come first, just so you can unlock a novelty car you'll never use and a new stage where the goal is to knock over as many cones as possible in a given time limit.

It might have been fun once, but the formula has grown tired.

A good friend of mine racing at the real Cadwell Park.

One of my favourite tracks on PCars 2.

*edit* Just chatted to him. He practiced the track on PCars 2 F4 8-)
