I've yet to play the second demo for this but, Kotaku and The Verge had issues with the full game apparently

Or is it like the demo where it starts out fully voiced before dropping it entirely and going for generic soundbites all the time?

Would like to know this also.

It's not fully voiced, all the main cutscenes are though.

So what counts as a "main" cutscene then? I remember story cutscenes in the demo not being voiced.

Sorry but I'm really struggling to see where the budget went for this to justify a £50 price tag rather than around the £35-40 mark.

Do you realise how expensive voice work is, especially over the 8 or 9 language they dubbed this in? Fully voicing a game with this much dialogue is very, very expensive.

So is the game.

Obviously don't buy it if it's not worth the cost to you. I will say the only thing I've seen reviewers criticising is the story though, the production values are generally considered to be top notch.

Five party members in, and still hooked. They've done a great job crafting unique stories for each of the characters, it feels like in Dragon Quest, when you go from town to town, and each has its own back-story and dilemma, a distinct identity. Primrose's opening chapter was surprisingly dark, some of the dialogue felt superbly worded, enough to insinuate for those mature enough, but go over the heads of those not.

I was reading Square have apparently apologised for lack of stock in Japan, which I hope is an indicator of it selling well, and not being under-shipped. If the game continues as it is, I could see it developing into one of my favourite 'modern' JRPG series', alongside the likes of Bravely, Xenoblade and Trails, certainly if they continue making more games. You'd hope they would after the reviews, and it seems to have been popular among pre-order listings.

Retail price isn't based in cost at all, not exactly a business secret.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

I've just finished my 6th Chapter 1 and I am still loving every second. I keep putting it down to take a break then picking it up again 10 minutes later.

I don't get this game at all. Never been an Rpg fan, but decided to try the demo. Got to the Primrose boss (chose Alf? as my character), and cannot beat him. No idea what I'm doing so looked online but that wasn't any help at all.

I don't think it's explained very well at all in the game how to do combat.

Attack with a weapon they are weak to to break their guard, that's pretty much the combat

Yeah, there was a screen about breaking guard by exploiting a weapon or element weakness, and one about boosting, but the rest is left to the player to explore. There's very little hand-holding, many of the side quests are really vague, but seemingly can be solved in different ways by different character's class actions. It's very similar to Bravely Default, there's a layered system that's ripe for exploiting in multiple ways, they explain the basics, but let you arrive at the solution your own way. Which I find rewarding, but understandably might put off those unfamiliar.

Started this roughly an hour ago, really liking it. It looks great and sounds great, battle system is pretty easy on the surface (break enemies with their weakness, capitalise on it by defending then boosting your attacks when they are broken) but I can see people who want to really setting their party up in a way the system becomes almost broken (as I'm sure people did in Bravely Default/Second).

I'm the same Ophilia. I cannot beat the Light Guardian. I tried breaking him, nope. Tried just attacking with spells which do more instant damage, nope. As soon as the exploding minions appears I get mullered.

Is the Light Guardian her Chapter 1 boss? I used her Guide skill on an NPC who was standing far right of town and had a really odd dialogue line about standing there for a reason, or something. Every time I summoned him the boss's magic attacks reflected back on itself, which made the fight really easy. I only used the skill on him because I assumed he was blocking a treasure chest (he wasn't), and he tagged along all through the dungeon.

I had an NPC with me who would constant heal me, and I still couldn't do it (NPCs piss off home after their first summoning on bosses apparently). I'm sure it's me, I'm terrible at this sort of turn based stuff, but I thought it was super harsh for a first boss.

The bosses scale the more party members you have I think, I don't know if you can abuse that by switching out to a single member to give the boss less health/make them easier to break?

Seems to have done well in the UK. Entered the All Format's chart at #3, the Individual chart at #1 and tops the All Format's chart when sorted by revenue, apparently. Almost doubled Bravely Default's opening week sales, and more than doubled Bravely Second's. I didn't expect it to do this well here.

Been going through it most of the weekend and I'm enjoying it immensely, loving the open nature of the game and how your free to play how you want. The story lines for the characters are nothing special just a load melodrama, everything else however is top notch. The soundtrack is beautiful.

Finally beat that strawberry floating Primrose boss. I learnt a new skill for her, then in the end had to rely on an old man I lured to the battle, who got the final hit to kill him.

I actually liked the demo though, which was quite generous with it's 3 hours. I doubt I'll buy it at full price, but I might be tempted if I ever see it cheaper.
