I loved it; it was definitely my GOTY. I barely ever stick with games but I was totally transfixed by this.

But, yeah, I don't think everyone will like it as much. Which isn't really that odd... folk don't all like the same music or films, so why should they all like the same games? One of the good things about the rise of the internet for videogaming is that we can more easily recognise that almost every game has its fans and its critics. Perhaps we need to place less emphasis on what other folk think and just play the stuff that suits our own tastes.

Taste is one thing but being more tolerant of broken/shitty mechanics is another. If they could fix the bugs, camera and controls, and make Trico more responsive (and speed up the animation when you're climbing over him...) it would have easily increased the enjoyment that could be had out of the game. I was personally disappointed that an obviously good game was left seriously hamstrung by it not being finished. I rate it as a 5, but had those issues been fixed it would have been a comfortable 8. Presumably equal to an Edge 13.

For me, the ungainly controls and wilfulness of Trico only added to the experience of trying to guide a large creature around... but, yes, I can understand that some folks could have found that aspect to be frustrating.

I find that the attractiveness of a game's setting is a big factor in my desire to play through a game. As an example, I love Deadly Premonition even thought it's technically clunky and, well, very weak... whilst I couldn't bring myself to play any of the Uncharted games because they just don't "grab" me; though I recognise that technically they are super. It's why I choose to play Battleborn rather than Overwatch... I can see that the latter game is technically great and looks good - and has plenty of fans! - but I just found Battleborn's design and premise to be a wee bit more attractive.

But, yeah, I don't think GRcadians will be queuing up to support me on those particular choices ;) .

Battleborn was a good game that came at the wrong time.

It did just get a PS4 Pro patch I think, need to give it another bash with that.

Indeed, dude - and there are some nice options, too. 1080p 60 FPS (or 1080p 30 FPS with boosted effects) plus a 4K mode.

Anyway, back to TLG :toot: .

Picked this up in the PS Store sale for £11.99 last week. Think I'm nearing the end now as I've just completed the fight with the other Trico and it's certainly something isn't it? The animation on the boy and Trico especially is amazing, full of great little touches. The game has been full of great moments too, like the first time Trico catches you out of the air, or when he gets over his fear of those glass eyes to save you from the enemies

I can see why some people may not have enjoyed it - the camera and controls can be a bit awkward at times, and I imagine some people not enjoying the fact that Trico doesn't always listen to you straight away but that's part of the charm of the game.

Jank camera, controls, animations seem to be a Team Ico trademark. (They're present in SotC remaster but thankfully just like in TLG, they do not mar overall experience.)

I think the animal is meant to be a bit unresponsive and unpredictable, to replicate what real pets are like. I.e. thick as gooseberry fool.

The game is an amazing experience but I can get why some don't get it. Their loss though.

Try the power button - it's super effective.

in my head Ad7 is in a terrible cycle where he tries to play games to relax, sees things like the above and turns off the console in disgust, then (for example) looks through his net curtains and sees next door blocking his van in, blows his top and goes back to a game to try and cool off, and repeat

Finished this last night.

Trico

When trico does what you want :toot:

When trico glitches and just stays in the same place repeating the same floating animation until you reload the checkpoint :x

The controls :dread: :dread: :dread:

Gorgeous most of the way through, should have been one of my all time gaming experiences, but ruined at every step by shoddy controls and a godawful camera just at the moments when you need it to be great.

Camera and controls aside it would have been a 10/10 for me, as it stands I think I've lost a few hours of my life through foaming at the mouth with rage at the strawberry floating thing so it gets a 6/10. Probably one of the most intensely frustrating gaming experiences I've ever had.

Hopefully it'll get a ground up remake like SOTC and these problems can be fixed to make it the game it should be.

And strawberry floating lol at them thinking this would work on ps3 :dread:

It really is such a divisive game. There are many wonderful moments that made me gasp and exclaim! I absolutely loved it but, yeah, I can see why some people wouldn't get on with the controls. For me they added to the feeling of challenge in trying to get a huge creature to do what you want... but that could be seen as clunky by others.

The many, many problems in this game absolutely destroyed what magic there was there. Even without them it would be repetitive and at times tedious. I didn’t bond with the beast, it was just a poorly implemented piece of programming stopping me from progressing for about 80% of the play time. I finished it in under 15 hours, it felt like 30.

The game bugged out on the very last thing you have to do. I was unable to do something that had to be done so I had to reload the save point, repeated my actions and it worked. Utterly destroyed the end bit for me. Also, you know you’ve just finished a stinker when the final cut scene is the best but if the game.

Probably the worst £50 I’ve spent in gaming.

Yup. I got it for £24 in a sale, played it for about 10 hours and returned it. The appalling frame rate made it unplayable.
