I had issues with controls now and again, but Trico quickly won me over. Ditto the stained glass!

I was playing on a launch PS4 and had no issue with the framerate.

I swear there were parts where it dipped into single figures. Never had a problem with any other games on my PS4.

I'm sure it had slow down, I don't recall it being as bad as that but it also wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, not unless it caused me annoying deaths/happened super frequently.

You heartless monster.

You’ve got me, fair play. I did bond with the beast, I wanted to help it, protect it, control it, but it was a troublesome relationship, from start to finish. And when I was struggling with controls and cameras and silly drops in frame rate (PS4) it reduced my experience.

I finished the game on a Pro. Far, far better experience. But still with absolutely appalling controls and camera. Simplistic level structure (that I might not have noticed without the other drawbacks, might have even enjoyed). Repetitive puzzle solving. The all too frequent jumping puzzles that caused my character to continually *just reach* a ledge and pull himself back on. Over and over again.

LET ME PLAY THE GAME!? Not watch my character pull himself up onto ledges.

The feeling of hopelessness when lost in the game design, when you just don’t know what to do next, when the actual way forward is to throw yourself off.

Such a beautiful thing, but so flawed. Like the girlfriends I didn’t marry.

The next project from Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian creator Fumito Ueda and his genDesign studio is currently underway and will rival the scale of his previous works, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals.

Here are the tidbits from Weekly Famitsu’s interview with Ueda:

“We’re in a stage of various trials. This stage we’re in, where we’re actually making our ideas to test if they’re interesting or not, is being supported by Kowloon Nights (a game fund), so we’re proceeding with prototyping.”
“We’re working out the core parts first, and from there we’ll make it into a stable product. That’ss our challenge this time.”
“What we’re making now doesn’t feel like an indie game. We’re ultimately aiming for something on the scale of Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian.”
“If larger-scale development becomes of interest to us, then I think we will significantly expand our development system and take it to a large-scale development team to make it a big game.”
“This will be a completely new title, not a sequel.”

Also I really loved The Last Guardian, esp my big puppy ♥️ it's flawed but so adorable

If played using unpatched disc version, this runs at 60 fps on PS5.

On the third attempt, I have finally 'got into' The Last Guardian. I followed the same pattern as Ico and SoTC, whereby I dipped in, then dropped out for a while (a couple of years), before becoming utterly engrossed by it.

I am about half way through the game, having spent about ten minutes stuck in a tree last night. Not a perfect game, but certainly one that invokes emotion and a connection between the boy and Trico. I have picked up a guide on a few occasions. Mostly it's been a case of I've pointed Trico in the right direction, but been ignored and then tried everything else I could think of before finding out I was right to start with but just needed to keep trying until Trico did what I wanted. The tree is a perfect example of that. I don't like using guides for games, but on this occasion I think the game could be a little frustrating without one on standby.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

I reckon it's intentionally a bit wonky to represent how a real life version would behave. Animals are difficult to train and even when trained can sometimes act up.

I recently completed this and felt it was a more than worthy follow up to Ico and SoTC. It is frustrating at times but the way you connect and interact with Trico is magical. Shame they never properly released a 60 FPS update but at least there is a workaround with the disc version

This is easily one of my favourite games of last gen. It seemed impossible that the game would meet expectations after such a lengthy development but I hugely enjoyed it. I could see that it may be divisive, though; it's a fairly slow-paced game and the controls are sometimes a touch obscure - but the sense of scale and the thrill of progression are very well done.

On a similar note, I found the game's score complimented the scale of awe and wonder, of the precarious obstacles and dangers which lay ahead, perfectly - and in particular, how the player should feel during certain moments; whether its taking a leap of faith towards Trico or the heightened sense of danger as he desperately scrambles upon crumbling platforms with you on his back.

Maybe not one of my favourite games of that gen, but absolutely near the top of my honourable mentions.

I played this for the first time about 4 months ago (part of the ps5 collection). Thought it was excellent.

True, Yube, the sound really was managed very well. TLG  .

Lovely, wholesome, devoted creatures that can be infuriating occasionally  .

Great stuff, kaz! It was the first game I loaded up on my new PS4 Pro in late 2016 and it was such a good experience. I'd like to play through it again sometime!

I finally completed The Last Guardian! A brilliant but flawed game. I had to resort to a guide in places, as I felt my interest lessen when I was struggling with puzzles.

Overall, I would say that I prefered Shadow of The Colossus. The relationship with Trico was beautiful.

It's magnificent to see this thread bumped! Well played, Sprouty, and I'm glad that you enjoyed the game. Definitely one of my personal favourites from last gen.
