Well, I'm glad I didn't do this. Difficult to see me being able to play more than a couple of hours at a time.

It's remarkable, but incredibly draining. Trico will eat your patience for breakfast

I've pre-ordered the game on PSN, but I'd suggest you check out Jim Sterling's thoughts on the game just as a counter balance to EA's review.

I love The Jimquisition but I rarely agree with Jim Sterling's reviews. He's overly cynical about everything. His podcast is terrible for this, too. I had to stop listening to it because it was too depressing :fp:

I think it's the 9th only in the UK for some reason.

They've got ten years worth of development costs to re-coup... this won't be a limited release :-).

Same here, he really does bring you down :slol: It's the same thing most wrestling 'commentators' online suffer from and drive me away, can't ever say much positive but lay and lay on the negatives.

I'll admit im willing to overlook the technical issues this looks to have, these games never have been or ever try to be a technical marvels. Always about the characters, story and atmosphere and this looks to have it in droves.

Really like look of special edition statue but can't justify it after buying the obscenely priced FFXV one.

Well I've seen some nice promo signs at GAME out of all places - I'll give them kudos for placing them at the front of the store. Their prices though for new games!

I dont think hes overly cynical about everything, i think he jsut tends to have fairly polarizing opinions. He gave Dead Rising 4, a game youd expect him to tear to shreds, an 8/10. He also gave Far Cry Primal a really good score too. I dont think he hates on things just for the sake of being edgy or cynical. I dont always agree with him, but i find his scores would line up with whats in my head alot of time.

either way im still hyped to play TLG tho.

Hmm. His Impressions video for LTG began with him specifically saying his opinion would be contrary to the popular vote, as it were. And FFS, he gave Dishonored 2 5/10 which is just...insane.

If youve played the PC version, a 5/10 is generous for Dishonored 2. I strawberry floating hate that game despite the original being my GOTY for 2012.

My only version is the PC version. And sorry brer but it really, really isn't. It's not my game of the year but it's real close. What didn't you like, apart from the performance issues which 1) I never experienced and 2) have now been patched?

Jim Sterling's views on the game were slightly dour and begrudging. I think he did like the game, just didn't appreciate its technical shortcomings and really disliked how Trico's AI has been implemented. He struggled with the concept of a game forcing a player to slow down, to not be hand-held and spoon-fed every next-step. Personally, watching his video review and his criticisms, I loved his every irritation. His frustrations with the game seemed to me to be outright positives. Trico is unpredictable? You mean like a real animal would be? Ever tried getting a cat to do what you want?

Sterling never struck me as a twitch gamer, so why he's complaining about a game that is far removed from twitch gaming (and all the better for it, imo) is unknowable to me. The more I see gamers moaning about Trico's unpredictable AI the more I'm reassured this is a game I can happily sink many unhurried hours into.

Exactly this. I haven't played the game - getting it for Crimbo - but it sounds like the way a beast of Trico's size should/would behave. Why would he listen to a child which is also a different species? Seems similar to the Ash/Charizard situation in Pokemon when Charizard was very unruly. Why would he take orders from a child - he's a badass.

The criticisms of not being able to grab onto every single ledge and things like vines decorating stonework 'unnecessarily' are really bizarre.

He did sound like he fairly enjoyed it overall to be fair.

If you never noticed any performance issues then im happy for you. However the "it works fine for me" defence isnt really applicable when there's still a sizable amount of people suffering from performance issues. Steam reviews are still hovering at "mixed". The performance thread on Gaf is massive, and for the most part, the people having problems outweigh the people not having problems by a massive margin. Ive tried every beta and live patch for the game and performance is still dogshit on a PC that should easily be able to run this game.

That is rubbish. It looks like I just got lucky with my setup

But aside from that the story isnt interesting at all, corvos voice actor sucks, they should have jsut left him mute, the world isn't as interesting as Dunwall, the clockwork soldiers are strawberry floating horse. gooseberry fool. and made the supposed greatest level of all time, the clockwork mansion, and absolute strawberry floating chore. I spent more time reloading after one of them spotted me out the back of its strawberry floating head than i did doing anything else. And the constant strawberry floating chatter out of them drove me mad. If thats the best level the game has to offer i guess i am just mental in the head because suffering through that level combined with the constant FPS drops, made me uninstall the game.

I agree about the story, it's passable but completely uninteresting.

I played through as Emily, whose voice actress was fine. I have heard criticism about Corvo however.

The Clockwork soldiers were an addition to the game. Not a good thing, not a necessarily bad thing. I certainly didn't find they ruined anything, but I suppose that's a personal preference. There's multiple ways of taking them down that means you can avoid direct contact: a stun mine for example takes them down immediately.

I for one didn't rate the Clockwork Mansion as highly as others. It's extremely innovative, but it didn't set my world alight. The time-travel level, however, is genius and up there with Titanfall 2's Effect and Cause for one of the finest levels I've ever played. It's fantastic, and you really have missed a gem by not getting that far.

I really would take issue with your claim that Karnaca isn't as interesting as Dunwall though. As I mentioned before, I think the place is this gen's Rapture. It's so incredibly detailed, with some amazing environmental storytelling, almost limitless alternate routes, a lovely aesthetic and a genuine, rotten charm. I straight up disagree that Dunwall was more involving, somehow.

his is just an opinion that has not put me off buying the game, but at least he's not glossing over its failings as you are doing. and seriously... your counter is "Ever tried getting a cat to do what you want?" :fp:

There is no way you could call Trico's AI a failing. Fair enough if you don't enjoy it but there's no doubt it's a landmark accomplishment.
