I think the game looks pretty interesting has a massive Banjo Kazooie feel about it as expected. Although visually it looks very last gen which makes sense as it was originally designed around that hardware.

And even though it's not now releasing on it :( .

#stillraging #entitledgamer #cantgetoverit etc

I've messaged Playtonic about obtaining a refund but they haven't replied; and going by the comments thread on Kickstarter I don't think they've replied to anyone who has requested a refund. This really has gone from something ace to something that is just so disappointing.

Yeah, you would think it would be possible to do at least a digital release for the Wii U, the game must have been almost complete.

This situation perfectly exemplifies why I never back video games on Kickstarter, theres way too much risk and uncertainty with them. This game is the closest I have come to backing one and I would have gone for the Wii U version, in my mind it just "feels" right to play this kind of game on a Nintendo console, and I cant help but feel that I would be much like Jawa now if I had. I am very much looking forward to this game but I have not put down any money for it yet, if I had then I would have felt cheated as I had paid for a Wii U game and now Im being told I cant have it. Offering other platforms and moving development to the Switch doesnt really soften the blow for this, they have cancelled development of a game that people have paid money for, Im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and see how they handle the refund process but if it is anything other than completely painless then they will come off looking very bad in my eyes.

In my eyes, Playtonic Games has handled this really badly. The alleged "technical challenges" have not been mentioned during the eighteen months since they gained funding for the project. The guys were talking up the Wii U and saying how pleased they were to be bringing the game to the system... and then it was a case of "Hay! The game is out in April for £34.99 in disc form for PS4 and XBO so pre-order it now!.... oh, and for backers of the Wii U version, we're not doing that any more so play it on another system instead". They've then compounded the disappointment by blatently not responding to Wii U owners who have requested a refund. It just feels shoddy.

I guess that's a long way of saying "yeah, I will be extremely cautious - i.e. unlikely - about backing a game via Kickstarter in future".

The technical challenges thing is just a smokescreen. They are hoping to fool people as it is coming out on the PS4 and XB1 so they think they can just imply that the game can't run on an old system like the Wii U. We all know that theyve cancelled it because they are worried that it will be a bad investment as the wii u is dead.

This is the part that has me worried, it smacks of them playing a wait and see game to see what the hit will be if they just offered a no questions asked refund. Since its a Kickstarter they are under no obligation to give anyone their money back so my guess is theyre going to see how many Wii U backers ask for their money back instead of switch to another platform and see if they want to take the financial hit. If theres too many refund demands then they will just say no to them all and offer a change of platform only.

I'm not really knowledgeable about how Kickstarter works... could somone take money for a project and then say that they can't deliver and that they won't grant a refund?

You assume all risk when backing the project. If they cant deliver then they are under no obligation to pay anyone back as far as I know.

This is amazing.... Nintendo Life interviewed Chris Sutherland (part of the Playtonic team) at EGX 2016 - i.e. just over two months ago - and when asked about the possibity of an NX version he replied:

Playtonic wrote:It's great that there's other consoles out there... at the moment we gotta focus on the ones that we said we were making for Kickstarter really...

And the reporter followed it up with:

Nintendo Life wrote:Well that makes sense because I think it would be hugely disappointing if a version didn't come out... so I think that's the right attitude to have.

Dat lost focus in the past two months :datass: . ( ... :x )

I suspect that some folk thought I was being a tad harsh on Playtonic over the refund situation for Wii U backers.

Well, over a week since the anouncement and their "contact us to discuss a refund" post, there has been complete silence. The comments thread on Kickstarter has loads of posts from folk who have asked about a refund and Playtonic have not made a single acknowledgement, let alone a response.

"Ah! But they are only a small publisher, jawa - cut them some slack!" I hear the cry. Well, in the same time period their Twitter account has been full of re-tweets of gushing praise for the game... such as this:

A Yooka-Laylee pre-orderer wrote:@PlaytonicGames I just preordered on steam. I'm crying over how good it is!!

Basically we're being kept well up to date on just who is crying with excitment over how good their pre-order is, whilst some folk who stumped up money eighteen months ago are basically being ignored.

Is Playtonic really a bunch of bad guys? Do they really not care about a chunk of their financial backers? I'd hate to think it... but, based on current evidence, I feel this may be the case.

1. Wii U is dead
2. You'll be getting a Switch
3. You'll be getting Yoka-Kaylee on Switch

Now stop being upset and enjoy your Christmas :)

It really has twisted a nut. I'm usually pretty mild-mannered, but their way of handling this has riled me a wee bit. :fp: .

That would be one hell of a plot twist!

On the plus side Jawa, possibly?, new 'trailer' looked good.
