REXTRO’S ARCADE POWERS UP!

Keep hold of your spare change: Rextro’s awesome arcade games are coming to Yooka-Laylee!

Playable in both single-player mode or with up to four players in local multiplayer, these 8 unique competitive games are designed to channel the heyday of couch multiplayer, when ‘lag’ meant forgetting what time of day it was when your mates eventually switched off and stumbled home.

There are eight different games – accompanied by retro-tastic tunes from the one and only Steve Burke (Kameo, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts) – including arena brawler Glaciators, old-school racer Kartos Karting and the friendship-destroying Jobstacle Course.

As well as the local multiplayer arcade games, Yooka-Laylee offers a second player the opportunity to co-star in the main Yooka-Laylee adventure. Taking control of the Bee Team, a second player can grab quills, collect and store butterflies, stop traps and more!

Why is it going gold now if it's not out for another two months?!

Today we have a very important update on how console backers will soon be able to prepare their final platform choices for Yooka-Laylee, ahead of the game’s April 11 release.

Very soon we will unlock Backer Kit surveys and allow you to make final adjustments to your game platform including Nintendo Switch, plus the opportunity to upgrade to a physical version for PS4 and XB1. Wii U backers affected by our recent announcement can also request a refund.

Thanks for your patience on this: we’ve been working very hard here at Playtonic not just to keep everyone as satisfied as we can, but to deliver the game you expect too.

First, an important reminder: Ahead of console surveys being unlocked (we will send another update to let you know when that happens), we encourage all Kickstarter backers to make sure they have access to their Backer Kit account and contact Backer Kit support to solve any issues. We’ve also prepared a detailed FAQ that should answer any questions you may have.

Digital console backers: Please note that if you choose to step up to a physical console version a £20 GBP upgrade cost will be required, which covers cost of goods, handling and shipping.

We continue to work closely with Nintendo on plans for a Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee and more details will be revealed in the future. We’d like to thank our many Nintendo fans for their continued patience and understanding while we form our plans: we hope to make your platform of choice a great place to experience Yooka-Laylee in the future!

Note: Upon release, the Switch version will be delivered to backers via digital game codes and thus no additional upgrade cost is required.
.
-------------------------

Forthcoming options depending on your current platform choice
When we unlock your survey through Backer Kit, Wii U backers will be able to do one of the following:
- Change to a PC digital Steam version (and receive Toybox Plus on PC Steam to compensate for price difference)
- Change to a digital console version (Xbox One, PS4 or Switch)
- Upgrade to a physical console version (Xbox One or PS4 - £20 upgrade cost applies)
- Request a refund
*Please note that all Wii U backers who don’t choose another platform will be defaulted to PC digital Steam
.
When we unlock your survey through Backer Kit, Xbox One & PS4 backers will be able to do one of the following:
- Change to a PC digital Steam version (and receive Toybox Plus on PC Steam to compensate for price difference)
- Change to a different digital console version (Xbox One, PS4 or Switch)
- Upgrade to a physical console copy (Xbox One or PS4 - £20 upgrade cost applies)
- If you’re happy with your original choice, do nothing at all!

PC digital backers
- Thank you for your support too. You don’t need to make any adjustments to your survey and will receive your pledges as planned.

Huge thanks again to all backers for your patience and support as we work through the process of delivering many physical items, plus complex fulfilment plans, to ensure that everyone is as satisfied as possible with the game, on their platform of choice!

Look out for another message soon alerting you to when your Backer Kit survey is unlocked.

No it isn't. A game disc is sent for mass-replication generally with 3 weeks or less to release. Are the millions of copies just gonna be sitting there in a warehouse for the next two months? It's a very odd move.

Bit surprised at the physical upgrade fee. It's going for £29 on Amazon and I think Prime members get £2 off. Will cost £35 to get a physical copy as a backer though.

Genuinly game disks are often made about 2 months prior to release. Someone I know worked at Game and often they'd have the disks in the warehouse a month before launch.

I agree - considering just getting a refund and switching my order to Amazon

Not that surprised, its probably literally the extra cost of getting it to you.

I'm unsure. As a backer who selected the Wii U version, I'm still grumpy about the way that Playtonic handled the cancellation of that. I feel that I want to go for the refund option... but I could instead change to the Switch version. If I keep my Switch pre-order.

I guess the options will be made available during the next week or so and I'll make an on-the-spot decision then.

I'm not sure about the stupid voices in the game.

It was fine in Banjo Kazooie on the N64, because that's about all the system could manage...but it sounds a bit silly in some of the videos...

Still, I'm excited about this game, and pre-ordered the PS4 version on Amazon today :toot:

Just had an email saying Backer kit surveys are now available so Wii U owners can confirm their alternative platform choice. Decisions have to be made by Feb 16th.

So they can't even hold out for the inevitable switch release.

What do you mean? There's an option to switch to the Switch version.
