PS3 HDD caddy

I have decided to get some use out of my old fat PS3 and signed up to PS+. Good stuff, except my hard drive (60gb) is strawberry floating tiny compared to some of the games.

I have bought a 500gb HDD, and have attempted to replace it, but the bastard screws on the caddy are refusing to come out. The blue screw was bad enough but I managed to get it undone with pliers, the 4 screws on the actual caddy will not move though.

I have searched around for a replacement caddy, but can only seem to find ones for the slim or super slim models. Will these work ok with an old PS3 or does anybody know where I can buy a replacement caddy?

I currently just have the HDD wedged in there, it works but I don’t think it is a long term solution. :lol:

Be careful when buying replacement Slim caddies, it turns out there's more than one version

They're subtly different (example: one type has a long thin bit cut out at the end of it, the other has no but but two bumps instead. Picking the wrong one prevents you from fitting it in to your PS3. So check which version you have now and ask before you buy to make sure it's the same version of caddy.

I thought it might be the case that they were all different sizes. I can't find any for sale that suggest they fit the fat PS3.

Sony.

Will have to rip apart my old one and slot the new hard drive in. I probably will not be able to screw it back in properly, but it should be a little more secure in there.

I did, the screws are gooseberry fool and just melt no matter what screwdriver you try and use.

Anyway, just phoned Sony and asked if they had replacement caddys or knew where I could get them. The lady was really helpful and agreed to send a new one out in the post. She didn't even mention a charge. Great service. :wub:

I've removed and replaced the hard drive on three large ps3s. I never had that problem, because i used the right side screwdriver. Screws only do that if you jam a novelty screwdriver into them.

I had no issues with the screws when changing the hard drive in my fat PS3.

The screwdriver I used fit the screws perfectly. As I turned, the screws wouldn't move and ended up just stripping.

Same here, I have one screw left of four that's threaded bare and it won't come off the caddy. :evil:
