I've almost 100% the game in Normal. All gold icons on the map before going to the final temple. Which was an absolute strawberry floater, because the last chest on Sierra Morena was actually after the end of the stage, so I spent ages searching the entire thing, with it's massive open areas, only to give up and walk into it on my way out.
The orbs are
sublime.
Super Meat Boy levels of platforming dexterity needed. The Tree Tops especially were strawberry floating brilliant, as it was one seemingly impossible situation after another that required you to experiment with your abilities to puzzle out a solution.
The only one that made me tear my hair out was the disappearing platforms one, specifically the third room, because I've never been faced with that kind of challenge in a game before, where you have to memorize where the platforms are going to appear without any visual cues at all. All too often, I found myself jumping to where a platform was
visible instead of banking that in my memory and jumping to the previously banked platform. It's a neat skill, when you learn it, and it certainly gave my brain a workout.
My progress through that room could be most likened to Veni, Vidi, Vici from VVVVVV, where:
- It's not immediately clear how tough the challenge is until you've worked your way into it a bit.
- You start thinking "I'll never be able to do this", yet you're steadily improving all the time.
- You start to have failures in execution, and you're able to recognise a good "launch" vs. a run that just
feels bad.
- You have a bunch of attempts that are really close to success, and you panic and strawberry float it up.
- You're completely overwhelmed with elation when you finally do it.
Around about the second phase, there, I was like "strawberry float this, it's unfair", but in hindsight, I can't fault it. That feeling of overcoming a seemingly impossible challenge, it's why I play games.
This game is strawberry floating incredible.
