Out today, so who's listening?

I was kinda worried, wasn't really feeling the singles they put online and Mark Ronsons involvement had me scratching my head but given it a full play through and absolutely loving it. Feels like an extension of 'Like Clockwork', perhaps a tad poppier than that though. More upbeat too but that classic Queens darkness has its greasy pours all over it.

Pretty unimpressed. Reminds me a lot of Era Vulgaris.

I had no idea this was out today. I'll listen at some point, but I still can't get past the fact that I'd swap the entire QOTSA catalogue for one more Kyuss album.

Not really comparable bands though.

I was distinctly unimpressed with the track I heard, but will give it a shot with open ears tomorrow when I have the chance.

I picked it up today. Only listened once, but seemed cool so far. It's like they made an album out of Kalopsia.

It's a shame they'll never return to the sound of Songs for the Deaf, and no other band will likely ape it's quality. But whatever, Like Clockwork is probably their second best, and by extension one of my favourite records. Hopefully the new one will reach those heights on more listens.

Rated R is by far the best album they've done, this one doesn't come anywhere near to it.

I guess it's the guitar tones more than anything. It's been a while since I've listened to Vulgaris honestly, though.

Self titled is their best imo. Only album they ever did that wasn't packed with shitty filler songs

wow what an opinion

I think Era Vulgaris is under-rated. Top tier QOTSA is Songs For The Deaf though.

From the Like Clockwork thread, over 4 years ago.

I know, right?

1. Deaf
2. R
3. Clockwork
4. QOTSA
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
=6. Lullabies
=6. Vulgaris

Not quite sure where I'd put Villains in that line up right now, but it's not breaking the top 4, that's for sure.

1. Songs for the Deaf
2. ...Like Clockwork
3= Rated R
3= Villains
5. Lullabies to Paralyze
6. Era Vulgaris

I don't think they've ever made a bad album, cracking songs on all of them. I've come round to enjoying Era more these days and Villains I'm enjoying immensely. Very different sounds in their albums which just keeps them interesting after all these years

Current order is

1. Rated R
=2. Self titled
=2. Songs for the Deaf
4. Lullabies to Paralyse
5. ...Like Clockwork
6. Era Vulgaris - In my Head and 3's & 7's are really the only songs I like off this
7. Villains - improved with 2nd listen but still a bit meh

I was tempted to stick Them Crooked Vultures in there too as it's essentially a QOTSA album in all but name and is quite frankly, strawberry floating superb.

This is laughable. To even attempt to judge an album on the second listen, especially to compare it to other albums that you've had presumably 10+ years to digest.

Anyway it's sounding better and better the more I listen. I stand even more by my previous statement of this being Kalopsia Smooth Sailing stretched out to a full album. Groovy as hell.

Their best album is obvs Songs for the Deaf, with Like Clockwork and Rated R constantly switching places for second. Lullabies and S/T are also both amazing with some of their best songs, but they don't stand up as a cohesive album as much to me. Era Vulgaris is good, but noticeably not as good as the rest of their output.

I'd probably agree with this except Like Clockwork sits at a definite third place behind Rated R. I find EV to be a bit more consistent than Lullabies and Self Titled as well but it was my first Queens album so I probably have a bit of nostalgia around it.

Wasn't aware of this, will give it a listen, I find it's quite good "gooseberry fool gon git dun" music.
