How reliable are they for second hand consoles? Anyone had any experience with them?

Bought my PS3 (slim, not the gooseberry fool one, the first version) off 'em many a year ago and it's still running.

They're usually pretty good for stuff like that. I think they test stuff pretty vigorously.

I remember when i got a Japanese ps2 from rathbone place near tottenham court road and got home to find it wouldn't work! My original ps1 was bought from there and became faulty after a few years, but that was normal anyway.

I usually do not buy second hand hardware, but if cex offer a warranty, why not, if the saving is good.

They supply a 2 year warranty that's how much they stand behind there testing.

Lastly, their second hand prices are shocking, especially during the summer holidays where they bump up their prices. Only get it if you have vouchers to use up.

The best thing about cex is price-matching their trade-in prices with GAME to get actual new stuff.

This. Game will beat CEX trade in prices by a pound, so you can usually get some good money trading in.

Ok, so what I gather from this thread so far. The second hand consoles are good quality, but more expensive than they should be?

Should I just buy new?

It's good to see GRcade contributing to StayDead's cex education.

Bought Metroid Prime Hunters from Cex. It's just arrived, the case is in a state and it's the demo inside :fp:

You may as well buy a new one as the prices on CEX aren't that great. There have been some great bundles over the past few months and I'd expect more to crop up as we get closer to the announcement of the Neo. If you need it immediately, I'd recommend one of the following:

1TB console for £239.99
http://www.simplygames.com/p/sony-plays ... -drive-ps4

500GB black console with Uncharted 4 for £269.99 (use code TDX-KHTX)
http://www.tesco.com/direct/uncharted-c ... d=125-3294

500GB white console with Uncharted 4, Ratchet & Clank and Minecraft: Story Mode for £279.00 (use code TDX-KHTX)

Looking at CEX website, a PS4 500gb unbowed is being sold for £210. You could probably pick up a good bundle deal for not that much more to be honest

Yeah, CEX aren't great for console prices.

Best for trade ins to buy underrated games or ones too prolific to command a high market value in my experience.

You could also get the 1TB console, Lego Force Awakens, Force Awakens Blu-Ray, Overwatch, Minecraft Story Mode and an extra controller for £325 (use code TDX-KHTX). You could trade in all the games to CEX for £65 or get GAME to beat that price, if you have one nearby.

Alternatively, the 500GB model with Lego Force Awakens, Force Awakens Blu-Ray, Overwatch, Minecraft Story Mode and Ratchkey & Clank is just £295.01 with the code TDX-KHTX

John Lewis has 500GB consoles with Uncharted and an extra controller for £279.95:
