It does seem to be getting worse, the previous discussion seemed to think it was limited to "megathreads" but it seems to be happening even on shorter stuff now.

I blame Brexit.

How are the phpBB developers with updates these days? Last time I looked at their support forum it seemed like user activity had died off dramatically compared to the old days, made me wonder how longer software like this will be supported.

Still appears plenty active to me in its development

I think they are reasonably active, and we are behind on updates so step one would be get up to date then go from there.

I think we do need to move onto something more modern than phpBB.
