At least the people replying told him he's crazy. Another good place for this sort of stuff is the higher education, or workplace Stack Exchange forums.

Is it appropriate to email a professor saying you enjoyed their class, after doing well in it?

I recently finished taking an undergraduate class and I enjoyed it. I was thinking of emailing the prof and saying this, but I don't know if it's appropriate or not, for a few reasons:

I would have already said this in the class evaluations, which the prof will read.

More importantly, I recently received my final grade and it was good (A to A+). If I email now, it might come off as an implied "thank you" for giving me a good mark, even though I mean nothing of the sort.

My question is whether or not such an email would be appropriate. In the email, I would also express gratitude for the extra effort the prof put in (as they gave me resources to study the subject deeper on my own).

I just can't imagine what it's like to live your life over thinking everything to that degree.

Guys do you think it would be socially acceptable to reply to Ad7 saying that I agreed with his post? I read it and agreed with it and I know he’d like some recognition but I don’t want to come across as being a bumlick which is something that Dblock has accused me of in the past, but I know that sometimes people want to reply to a post saying “yeah dude I agree”, sorry not dude I didn’t mean to assume anybody’s gender do you think if I just said hey Ad7, thanks for your post I enjoyed it and wish to acknowledge that, is that ok? I just don’t know and I’m worried about getting a warning for doing a drive-by post.

Some people are just very introverted, or might have a social disorder (like anxiety, or being on the autism spectrum).

They're not hurting anyone and clearly have a tough time of it already. Is it really fun to rip the piss out of them?

I dunno, it's just some of the stuff posted is funny.

I don't know if they are less fortunate, I could be worse off than they, but I don't post stupid gooseberry fool on the net.

I mean, anyone worrying about whether it's OK to email someone a thank you note is clearly struggling to socialise well. It might be because they are a very quiet person and haven't developed a base level of confidence yet, or it might be because they have a medical problem, but either way it comes down to a bit of bad luck, doesn't it? It could have been you stressing about emails on the Internet if your childhood had been different or if your brain were wired a bit differently.

Stop bringing morals into this Karl, we're laughing at people out of context here.

Maybe we should make a sequel to se7en but based on these posts:

pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, sloth, someone said my name, is it ok to eat chips with my non dominant hand & I think I'm attracted to a squirrel

Karl has a point though, it is quite sad, almost like laughing at a cripple.

I understand where Karl is coming from, although I've come to appreciate I'm actually less risk adverse than I think. It's sad to think how paralysing that could be. It's good that these people are able to answer the questions, I think my anxiety is actually on a very low biochemical level and I realised to distance from it. It doesn't seem to create as much cognitive dissonance as for people such as this, yet I can understand it.

For example when I was a kid and I was late to school, I was so scared of walking into the class in a crowd with eyes on me that I just stood outside the door not knowing what to do for up to 10 minutes. I was unable to rationalise and articulate it, but one stumbling block is certainly over complicating and overrationalising things to the extent it does not really achieve anything. It is hard to see people doing that on the net, but it's good that they are able to have an outlet to express their problems.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."
