Hmm maybe it would have been a good idea to field some ideas rather than "polling prevalent members" and looked at whether the community had actually suggested it first, which we did (just sayin').

Although to be fair, I think we did merge the folder structure back together as an "executive order", because despite the benefits of more folders at the time, it just turned out we were too small to fragment stuff. But then we also implemented the tags feature so it was at least mitigated somewhat and the respective communities obviously didn't go away.

They only asked around 50 topic creators from the Hangouts section

The restructure apparently failed because it was successful beyond their expectations:

Earlier today we rearranged the forum with the goal of encouraging more discussion on entertainment topics, and to promote threads from the EtcetEra Hangouts. The results did some good; community OTs definitely saw a boost in activity, and some which had never even gotten off the ground before suddenly found new interest.

Unfortunately, we underestimated just how much impact this would have on thread list congestion. The renewed activity was beyond our expectations and ended up sidelining everything else, especially in the Entertainment section. Browsing for regular topics became difficult, which only fed back into the problem. Most disappointingly of all this created tension between segments of the wider community, which was absolutely not something that we wanted to let fester.

For these reasons, we have rolled back the changes. If you added anyone to your ignore list to avoid their threads please consider it safe to undo that.

I find that quite funny that they basically experienced the opposite problem to us.

Also I'd hazard to think GAF spontaneously adding a toxic ring fence for politics discussion was the start of a downward spiral but, er, that already happened. They've been games and off topic only as long as I can remember. Something tells me someone doesn't like the current political slant...

I got told yesterday by a hater of the Entertainment board that Resetera is american forum and if I don't like all the dumb trump threads then I should leave. :lol:

As everyone knows, Israel/Palestine threads are some of the most contentious and difficult to moderate. Early in our history we tried being as hands off as possible to let people express themselves, and the result was that the discussions escalated out of control and permanent bans had to be issued.
