the only tracking going on throughout this forum is finding out grown men don't know how to wipe their arse, are too scared to talk to the opposite sex, like anime tits, lose their minds over a 7/10 and so on.

The second there was talk of a breakaway forum you just know everyone had dollar signs in their eyes knowing evilore lived off Gaf.

Big plot twist at the end of all of this will be if evilore actually founded ResetEra and is still living off it.

We do need to set up an opt-in for functional cookies, which none of you guys are going to be bothered about anyway because you wouldn't be able to post at all if you disabled them, but our ads AREN'T targeted based on browsing history, so we don't need the switch.

What they are trying to do (and yes it's illegal in the EU), is default opt people IN to interest-based adverts because they get more money than generic ones.

So in other words I superseded the law requiring permission for interest-based ads by doing the decent thing and not serving them.

Confirmed: Gecko's ego has definitely not taken over the matrix whilst Karl is away from the office.

Sure you can, phpbb will add you session ID in the url if there is no cookie I think so it knows who you are on page load, you'd log in more often but I'm pretty sure it would still work.

Looking at how ERA appears to have been sharing user / usage data with hundreds of outlets / companies... it's quite scary and this situation has acted as a bit of a wake-up call. Do most websites do this kinda thing?

ResetEra is far from the worst offender.
Their list is likely quite small compared to some popular sites out there.

Short answer, yes

Install some addons/extensions to block tracking and only log in to things when you need to. Privacy Badger is good and just got updated to block google link tracking which is cool, and you won't even notice it is installed. Adblock+ or another adblocker is a must and can do more than just hide ads. Power users can get a lot out of noscript or ublock, but at the detriment of browsing experience.

I'm afraid it's normal, just the Google Ad network is huge (previously DoubleClick). But like I say, ours aren't interest based (they don't read browsing history), it's just a guess based on stuff written on the page being viewed (which isn't stored by the advertisers) and a very brief outline like "GRcade is a site about video games", although I don't think anyone directly bids on GRcade like that, it's all automatic matching up of stuff.

Example, Google sees this page is about Xbox One, you might see an ad about Xbox One. But not that weird pr0n you were browsing 3 weeks ago, or that thing you "forgot" to buy on Amazon (that's called re-marketing).

And sometimes they're way off the mark which is quite funny.

Was it KK who kept getting Muslim women dating ads?
