So, what else do we know? We know that id have a p*sspoor record of console ports of their titles. id's history is littered with half-arsed, gimped third-party console ports, the last of which was the frankly inexplicable ET:QW on PS3 and 360.
We also know that id don't support their console titles AT ALL once they're released. Don't expect any DLC, no expansions, no serious MP support. You'll get f*ckall. That's how id do things on consoles. They don't give a flying f*ck and they don't mind you knowing it.
As for RAGE's story and characterization..? Who cares? That's not what you go to one of id's partys looking for.
id 'do' visuals - it's their 'fing, innit? Carmack has long been in search of his own personal Holy Grail - the truly 'cinematic' game-engine. He thought he had it with idTech4 (turns out, no), so idTech5 is his great new hope - emboldened by the advances he made with his 'megatexture' technology, his eventual engine is bound to look a stunna - that is, it'll look a stunna on a top-of-the-line gaming rig. Not so much on 360 and PS3. After all, let's not get too excited; we've been here before too many times.
QW:ET was ported to X-box 360 and PS3 by third party developers also the WHOLE fing game was made by a third party developer Splash Damage, ID had some input on the game but not that much and made the engine. It's like saying Epic are a rubbish developer because they made Too Human which only used the Unreal 3.0 engine was not directly made my Epic.
The last ID game was Doom 3 which had an excellent x box port (also a third party port). Also ID tech 6 allows cross compiling to PC, Mac, PS3 and 360 so everything should be done by ID, although I'm guessing that Splash Damage might work on the MP aspect. Id have been working on rage for a long time it was announced in 2007 and Id have also stated a number of times that they are shifting there main focus towards the consoles because this is where most of the gaming market is. Saying that ID history is littered with bad ports is a joke, your basing this on two games Quake IV and ET:QW, both of which weren't made by ID in the first place, before this ID's console ports were really good. Also Quake IV was rushed to get it ready for the 360's launch which is the main reason it's buggy.
On the to point about downloadable content, on the consoles DLC has only really become important in the last couple of years really after ET:QW came out. In the past there has been loads of good add ons for the ID games. Look at Ground Zero and Reckoning for Q2 for example and what about team arena for Q3.
I agree with the genericness of the settings that was never really Id's strong suit, I still think it will be a fairly decent game though.
