Has anyone tried Conker yet? I've not given it a go yet but I wondered if it runs well/looks good

I played a bit more of JFG and finished the SS Anubis level with all but two of the Tribals. I literally just realised, as I looked up the spelling of the level, that it's Anubis not Annubus (like a-new-bus). I've been calling it by the wrong name for nearly 15 years  :fp:

Anyway, I thought a bit more about why I find the controls to be awkward on the X1 controller. Firstly, I'd like it if I could swap the strafing directions on the right analog stick. It feels like I use them more to control the camera than the character so I want to look one way but the camera goes in the opposite direction.

Secondly, I believe that it was easier to start using the analog stick to look, not move, on the N64 because it's easier to differentiate between buttons and sticks. On the X1, swapping movement and looking between two analog sticks is pretty confusing but I think that it would be easier to swap them between only one stick and the C-buttons on the N64. I'd actually like it if I could remap the controls so that jump and duck are on the bumpers and the right analog commands are on the ABXY buttons. It could also be due to the fact that I've been used to using dual analog controls in shooters, without swapping movement and look commands mid-game, for about 10 years and it's hard to go back to the JFG method.

As Juno made it to the end of the level without dying, I do think that I've improved my game this time and that, despite my reservations, I'm getting used to the controls. It's still a fantastic game and exploring each area feels fresh and new, even though I eventually remember certain parts. Despite having the soundtrack playing in my music library for the past few years, it's still great to hear the classic tunes as I play :toot:

The Spectrum games are more of a curio (I played Jetpac, Lunar Jetman and Atic Atac) as they're a bit too dodgy for this C64 aficionado - I'm looking forward to moving on to the NES stuff, which I've never played before.

What? it broken?

Sorry I just mean't the delivery person banged on the door @ around 7.30pm - never expected anyone coming to the door let alone a delivery at that time! The game looks fine :D

It's a good enough reason I feel now to pick up the console and plenty of decent titles on the horizon.

Did you ever play Forbidden Forest or Beach Head on C64, Eighty?

Edit:

Super Pipeline, BC's Quest for Tyres, Mission Impossible and International Karate + are notables too.

I don't remember Beach Head but I loved Forbidden Forest. I think I got it free on either the Commodore Format or the Zzap64 cassette tape.

I think I might wait to play this. Sounds like it needs some patches for various issues.

You can play Rash starting TODAY, August 4, 2015, and you can continue to do so until the test period ends on September 8, 2015 at 12am PDT. That’s over a month of Battletoad-time!

Of course, the goal of this test is to deliver the best possible Killer Instinct experience ever, and your input is absolutely vital. Have feedback about Rash? Tell us your thoughts in the forums, or feel free to tweet us your questions (we’re @KillerInstinct, but you already knew that).

Give a look over this brief FAQ to get the low down on Rash before you get started. It should answer some of your most burning questions.

How can I get access to Rash?
Rash is available to all Killer Instinct and Rare Replay owners. If you’ve purchased any piece of Killer Instinct content, including Season bundles, characters, accessories, colours, or even KI Gold you have instant access to Rash. Rare Replay players – just launch the “Battletoads” game in Rare Replay to unlock the first achievement “Do You Have Battletoads?” Rash should now be available in the character select screen of Killer Instinct.

How long is the Beta Test available?
Rash will be available for download from August 4, 2015 (9:30PDT) to September 8, 2015 (12am PDT).

Is this Rash’s final look?
No way dude! You’re getting an early look at Rash, so his animations, moveset and appearance are not final.

There are a few more frame rate drops in Tawfret which adds to the disappointment that JFG wasn't redone so that it runs at a constant speed. I doubt that the other N64 games will have improved performance when compared to their original counterparts which is a shame. This hasn't completely dampened my spirits as I enjoyed exploring each area to find as many secrets as I could. Sadly, a Tribal got caught up in the crossfire in the last area of Tawfret but I rescued all the others in that stage and most of the others in the preceding sections.

I haven't read anything to suggest that the upcoming patch will change more than the controls in JFG but I'm happy to see improvements in other areas, especially the frame rate. I'm tempted to give the Project 64 version a go as it hasn't taken me long to get Juno to Mizar's Palace.

I watched a Twitch streaming of Jet Force Gemini and the framerate looked just like the 64 version. I hope they sort the emulator out.

Patch is apparently up for Jet Force Gemini's controls, sounds like there's some bug fixes as well.
