Got mine yesterday and settling in for an evening of tinkering to find my SD card is not supported. Gonna have to pick up a new one today and get cracking. Its actually tinier than I expected, does anyone know if Maplin or anywhere does a box to fit it snugly?

Mounting them in an enclosure is a bit of a pain because they neglected to include any screw-holes on these models.

I've been amused by the cardboard case, though.

FWIW, I'm sure there are actual cases available now.

They're getting very close to running Android ICS on this now, so you could make an Android TV or something like that:

Of all the OS to run I'd love a big screen Android, although app compatibility might be a bit awkward the resolution of many android devices is higher than 720p so it should work pretty well with a wireless keyboard & mouse or touchpad etc.

Pretty natty. £30 Android computer.

With Google Docs as an Office alternative, that's a pretty strawberry floating cheap working computer.

Yeah, and importantly one that's already compatible with a wealth of easy to use, day to day mainstream apps, all found in one place (android market).

I was going to order one of these for a christmas present. I presume I've got no chance of getting one before then?

+1 for pirate flag since I'll probably use it for playing mostly pirated media on home network at some point. :shifty:

Used Technic since there are more ways to makes structures, I have way more of it in monochrome, it sort of makes sense and also it's ventilated. 8-)

 I like the little dials next to the clear block with the light behind it.

Hahah yeah it reminded me a bit of all those pointless dials/docks you can set up on desktops, like RainMeter, WindowsBlinds and stuff like that. I used to be really into that so it's a bit of a joke.

I like to pretend that it's a little mini factory of computer magic and at some point I want to integrate some minifigs into it, I've already got a chair lined up somewhere and I'm going to try and make more flaps for the ports, which is difficult as the Pi obviously isn't designed to fit Lego dimensions. Also there probably isn't much point as while the analogue i/o probably won't be used all the time, the SD, Ethernet, USB and HDMI have to be used all the time to make it useful.. so not much point having flaps on those.

It fits really snug in there though and is a lot smaller than some other Lego cases on Google. I think mine looks more technical and cool but muted at the same with just a bit of silliness.

Tempted by one of these. What kind of technical know-how is required? What kind of stiff can it do? Etc, etc, etc.

No electrical know how. Basic research and troubleshooting skills. It's all in raspi.org or whatever URL.

Two typical uses are Linux all purpose computer and something more slick like running android or xbmc for media playback on a tv.

Or you can use it as a Web server. It's a project box more than anything. The most mileage comes out of programing and physical computing / prototyping with the serial interface but for that I think Arduino is a more accessible platform at the moment. Both require basic electronics for that sort of thing.

Got one of these from the missus for Valentine's Day. Just running Raspbmc on it at the moment while I get to grips with it. I was running for a few days but then it seemed to get corrupted so I'm just installing to a USB stick as I've heard you get far better perfomance/stability that way.

Already planning to get a second to be a mini webserver to link to my dyndns address and hold a simple web page with links to my ftp server, sickbeard etc.

It's a little box of magic

EDIT: Couldn't this thread really do with being moved to OT or ATF?

Mine finally turned up yesterday (pro-tip: don't order from RS components).

Everything worked great, apart from some slight overscan issues which I'll fix tonight. I also went for Lego housing which got the kids interested in the thing. Now they know what a CPU looks like. I'm programming on a telly again! How lovely.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.
