I cannot figure out why I liked it so much on a first playthrough. I chock it up to being younger, more naive and having more time than I knew what to do with.

I still feel like elements of it are good, but it doesn't come together in a very cohesive fashion. I don't think it's as much as a disaster as Mirror of Fate though.

I'm sceptical about the new Metroid coming from these guys.

This makes no sense to me.

It wasn't perfect but I loved that game at the time. The snow levels captured Castlevania to a tee.

Better than GOW3, there I said it.

Strangely it all went down hill for Mercury Steam from there, maybe there was no Kojima influence like the first. I hopefully Nintendo have got MS on a tight leash.

I really enjoyed Lords of Shadow apart from when it autosaved at the start of the werewolf boss fight with me on around zero health. The DLC was gooseberry fool though.

Just finished Hotline Miami 2. It's not as good as the first game but mainly because it's more of an update rather than a true sequel. The game works because each level is fairly short and easy to reset and the tension mounts as you get closer to completing a level as any small mistake can kill you.

Shining Force

Relatively simple strategy RPG with a sense of humour, and memorable characters who are easy to like despite most of them having around four lines of dialogue. Enemies are not the brightest, often chasing the main character around the map instead of finishing off the mage with 1 HP remaining next to them, but the scenarios are varied so it's interesting all the way to the end.

I remember playing that Castlevania game and feeling as though there was something not quite right with it. Tried to get through it twice and stopped both times. I usually like a 3rd person slash-em-up too. That Enslaved game came out the same week I think, that was loads better.

Life is Strange -8/10

Finished this last night, thoroughly enjoyed the final episode and the game as a whole, despite a few gripes. It's rare I go into a game completely blind these days but I had very little idea what to expect with this so much of it took me by surprise. Most of the gameplay mechanics aren't particularly new or exciting but it's refreshing to play an adventure game that isn't chock-full of quick time events, I thought some of the puzzles were really well done and the rewind mechanic added an interesting twist. On some occasions I felt it detracted from how meaningful certain decisions were however this was more than made up for by how creatively it was used for the most part.

Story wise it was refreshing to play a game which tells a story and tackles themes which are so unlike any other videogame I've played. They didn't always pull it off or get it quite right but when they did it was very effective and led to a game that was something of an emotional rollercoaster and one in which I felt my decisions actually made a difference to the way things played out, I felt regret for decisions I'd made on more than one occasion and even genuine guilt.

My main criticisms would be some of the dialogue, particularly in the first episode, and the overall pacing of the game which can at times move along too slowly and at other times too fast. Overall though I'd thoroughly recommend it, it's not perfect but it tries to do something different and does a pretty good job of it too!

What Remains of Edith Finch - *****

I'd need to play it again, but I'm pretty sure Giant Sparrow has made a masterpiece. Exceptionally story-telling

I liked it but nowhere near as much as Gone Home, or even EgttR.

There were 2 standout moments, the bath time story and the fish factory, but the rest were rather forgettable. I appreciated the variety of the minigames and the creativeness of the context, but it never felt like a complete piece. Rather it was a disjointed collection of short stories without moral or theme (besides "death is a part of life"), with the whole matching the discord of its parts.

I liked it, but didn't love it.

Skyrim - my 4th time playing on 3 different systems. My three play through before are all over 60hours so this should tell you how much I enjoy this world. Nearly done everything and I'm sure I missed some side quests and caves. Onto the DLC now

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S3, HiJack S1, The Apprentice S18

Titanfall 2 (PS4) - 9/10

A really fun campaign mode which kept me coming back for more. Still playing multiplayer and put about 24hrs into that so far; it's keeping me entertained, but just ready for a bit of a change. Yakuza 0 up next methinks!

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier.

An absolute car crash of a game. Seriously, I have no idea who came up with taking one of the most liked characters in gaming and turning them into an emo sidekick, but here we are. Everything that was once decent about this game has gone to gooseberry fool, dull characters, dull story and barely any game. At least the TV series is no longer the worst part of this franchise.

3/10

Also, Minecraft: Story Mode.

This is more like it. It's clear to me that Telltale are on safer ground with the lighthearted comedy games. This isn't quite a match for Borderlands, but it's far more entertaining than the other po-faced stuff. There's also one moment which is more genuinely touching (which also produces an awfully guilty chuckle) than anything Telltale have ever produced before. No spoilers here, you know what it is if you've played it.

Sadly this runs out if steam a bit towards the end, the 'adventure pass' which has a further three episodes exacerbates the problem and I ended up getting a touch bored. Shame.

9 Persons, 9 Hours, 9 Doors (PC version) - 9/10

Brilliant stuff, loved it.

I've previously played and finished the DS version and seen two of the possible 'bad' endings and have just finished the PC version once and seen the 'cliffhanger' ending.

Will be playing it again to unlock all the endings which is fairly easy thanks to the new flowchart system which lets you to restart from any part of the storyline you've already seen.

Just finished Deus Ex Mankind Divided.
Bought it shortly after release for a bargain £20. Now you can get it new for a fiver. Classic waste of money.
I just don't think my gaming life can cope with stuff like this any more. Approaching 38 years old with two kids and rapidly losing the ability to invest time into game worlds that demand loads of investigating and trial 'n' error stealth play.
The martial law bits of the 2nd act were gooseberry fool and tedious but there were some rewarding solutions to some objectives in other parts of the game.
Ultimately though, I have to admit I saw this through because I felt it necessary having paid money for it and I wanted to free hard drive space.

Crash Bandicoot N.Sane trilogy

Great fun but it's going to lose a mark for horrendous loading times & an unskippable intro.

Watch Dogs on PS4. I thoroughly enjoyed this from start to finish bar a few frustrating missions toward the end. I may even be tempted to get the DLC too as I'd like to see more from T Bone. 8/10

Trine - 9/10

+ Looks gorgeous
+ Nice music
+ Constant progression in the form of items and abilities
+ Some good but not overly taxing puzzles
+ Moved along at a decent pace
+ Nice length (ooh er)

- Story was a bit 'meh'

Never thought I'd be heaping praise on this given I tried to get into it on a couple of occasions and failed both times. This time though it clicked, and it was a joy to play. Everything about it was really well done. Looking forward to Trine 2. :datass:

Mark of the Ninja - 9/10

This is seriously good stealth game. 2nd playthrough of this, and I'd imagine that I will go through it again in the future. The new items added by the DLC were cool. Only thing I could rag on is the ending, it just sort of finishes with very little fanfare.

Half Life 2 - 8/10

It doesn't get a 9 because of how overlong some of the sections seem. Usually the vehicle bits. Still an excellent game. The shooting, minimalist story, sense of purpose and interesting universe are the best things about it.

Outlast - 6/10

Atmospheric, and some genuinely unsettling imagery in this one. I was not into the gameplay, it just constantly repeats itself, run around a dark place getting chased by whatever nutter they've focused on. I found it pretty frustrating. Narrative was also a bit silly towards the end.

Playing this at the moment and I too am struggling. The story is a little dull, most of the characters uninteresting and much of the game play seems to be a chore. It also seems to be over reliant on some of the mechanics, such as hacking. I'm not sure if I want to continue and reading your thoughts make me less likely to.
