This is sort of inspiring me to go back to it now. I really enjoyed my time with it, finding the plot to be a minor distraction rather than a negative, but I really want to see how it could go from largely enjoyable to awful so quickly.

"You are too exhausted to use the grappling hook"

*runs about jumping and climbing*

It was only a very small percentage of the game but I really didn't like it. Both from the gameplay and narrative stand points. The chase sequence was more irritating then fun. I'd get one small hit from behind just as I was jumping over a fatal fall. Killing my momentum and strawberry floating me over. This happened about 6 times. Then there was the cheap trick of having one of the yellow hazmat suits running at me and instantly exploding when shot. This isn't how they behave in the game at all till this point. The QTE fight was shite. At least in something like Resi they were a persistent element you could learn to expect. Here it just appears after 30+ hours. It wasn't helped that the few missions building up were patchy. Didn't mind the shoot out in the museum (game should have ended here really) the vision bit was wank and nonsensical. Like she was talking to us through magic. Then I watched Crane slit a dying mans throat but then later on decided not to do that to the main bad guy who had the stuff to do the thing which we all needed because things. I also went up there armed to the teeth with guns and axes and stuff. But just had to watch as this bloke chucked a knife at me. It was shite. The lab bit was solid but then it felt like most of the interior bits of the game.

Maybe knocking a point off is hard on it but strawberry float it. I'm a dick. :datass:

Knack 2 7/10
Big improvement over the original, the combat is fun and there's substantial content, shame the levels are too linear.

I finally completed Assassins Creed Origins and I thought it was excellent.
The extra development time really does show and this game was the perfect showcase for my new TV to see 4K and HDR in action.

10/10.

I may even just roll over and do new game plus straight away.

Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 - PC

Not something you can really finish, but i'm wrapping it up now. I find it really enjoyable and relaxing to dick about fixing virtual cars, buying old wrecks and restoring them etc., however i've played this for quite a long time and its become my default go-to and has stopped me exploring my backlog so i'm stopping here after definitely getting my money's worth. It is a bit grindy though and takes ages to unlock things like the ability to repair bodywork parts, meaning you have to do a lot of brake/suspension jobs for a long time before things get going.

8/10

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Loved it. I like that it's old school health, armour and big guns yet the ADS headshots feel great. I could break down the various things about this that I like but overall it's the fact the game has heart. The tone is perfect, characters memorable and the world carefully crafted so that everything just fits. I was going to wait for a sale but I might pick up The Old Blood for full price.

Sod it, 10/10.

I'm really enjoying the games Bethesda are publishing, I'm playing through Dishonoured 2 now and it's has the same 'crafted with love' feel to it.

Bethesda are kicking ass these days. I'm playing Prey at the moment and it's generally been strawberry floating fantastic.

I forgot that existed. I remember it looking like something I would enjoy so I'll stick it on the list.

Rime, PS4

A very linear sequence of dull puzzles with an utterly depressing ending.

Pretty much a load of pants.

Ah, man, I was kinda interested in trying out Rime.

That doesn't sound good.

Dang. Will bypass this, then.

Prey 9/10

Loved the gooseberry fool out of this. I was a bit disappointed with it when I started it, but the game gets much much better when you start to understand the mechanics they've created. It feels like a survival game in a lot of ways
Some technical issues, there's a memory leak glitch which causes one of the areas to run like a slideshow in one instance, and then when you return to it, it runs great. The loading times are a bit much as well.

It's a shame it sold like a pair of Jimmy Saville's soiled underwear though. I love these sorts of games.

Tbf Octorcs opinions on of it isn't the norm. I'm pretty sure most enjoyed it.

Speaking of pants, I finished Super Fancy Pants Adventure yesterday. It's a pretty good game, but I did have a few glitches and crashes which annoyed me somewhat.

Yeah, on Metacritic the reviews are skewed far more towards the positive, Pedz. Perhaps Octo's opinion is a bit of an "outlier" :) . As the game is a PSN freebie I will probs still check it out.

It's worth it for free, but it's pretty mediocre on every level. It's a very unrewarding experience and I was surprised by how linear it is.

A case of "art style first, actual game second", but even the art style is let down by poor performance and the animation isn't exactly top drawer either.

Worth it for free though. Although you'll never get the time spent playing it back, there's no feel good factor whatsoever.

Oh, boy, I'm not sure that I'd want to put that effort into a game and have a "downer" ending. This probably isn't gonna be my bag.

I wouldn't worry about it, your history suggests you won't be seeing the ending. :D

I found Rime a bit meh too. I didn’t think it was bad but I didn’t think it was particularly good either. It’s certainly worth a look if you got it free though.

I did quite like the ending however.
