Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush

It's Canvas Curse approached with a 3D World mentality - loads of new ideas that don't outstay their welcome at all. The controls can be slightly fiddly at times but that's easy to forgive.

Just a fantastic game all round and probably the best game I've played on my Wii U since Mario Kart 8.

Four stars.

Alien Isolation: 9

As an exercise in how to do a movie license justice, this game is amazing. Probably the best thing in the 'Alien' series since 'Aliens'. The sense of place, sound design, atmosphere, etc are all spot on and help to elevate the game above some frustrating game mechanics and pacing issues.

Super PC version, too.

Would love to see the Creative Assembly team follow-up this game with an 'Aliens' inspired game using the same engine and with the same attention to detail.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze 10/10

I finally beat the boss of this amazing game, and have found every Kong Letter and Puzzle Piece - still need to complete the impossibly hard K levels.

Along with Mario Kart 8, this is my favourite Wii U game. Well-designed levels, the most colourful game I've ever played, and probably the best soundtrack of all time. Classic old-school 2D gameplay, and a real challenge.

Sadly, I'm not sure we'll ever see a game like this again.

Tropical Freeze is one of the best platformers I've ever played. I'd love another DK game from Retro, but they'll probably just do Metroid again.

Jacob Jones Episodes I & II on iPhone. A couple of good but very short Prof. Layton-esque puzzle games. Hopefully the next episode will be out soon as I quite like the story. They lose a couple of points for an annoying glitch where if I tried to toggle between apps while the game was running the sound would cut out until I closed and restarted the game. 7/10

The Unfinished Swan

A really wonderful game. I do have to say that I felt it was a bit too short though, or rather that it ended to abruptly. I thought the ending chapter felt very rushed and not very coherent - like they suddenly had to rush it out and they just changed gears completely and rewrote the story so they could wrap it up.

Still, it's absolutely fantastic and looks brilliant.

9/10.

Game 30: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

I'd owned this for ages but swore I wouldn't start it until I finished the original Witcher. The glowing reviews for Wild Hunt caused me to reassess that and I decided earlier in the week that the first game was a lost cause, but that I'd definitely get through this before I bought the new one. So this was a bit of a rushed playthrough. I did little of the sidequesting, and the tutorial arena told me I should be playing on Easy, so I didn't argue (though, it was a little ridiculous during some of the key fights that I'd absolutely whup someone's ass then cut to cutscene where Geralt is struggling). I went down the Iorveth path and have no regrets about any of the decisions throughout the game. It was a fantastic experience, with some of the most impressive world-building I've ever seen. The whole place feels alive, and the plot was packed full of enough double-crosses that it never lost its intrigue. The last chapter felt like the weakest, though. Almost as if it was rushed itself. I think most of the additions in the Enhanced Edition were here, but because I didn't seek out sidequests, I missed them and can see why they felt more content was needed. It thought it was a bit of a shame that you could basically ignore traps, bombs and signs, though that's probably down to it being on Easy. I'll bump it up for the Wild Hunt, for which my hype is now at fever pitch. Can't wait to pick up this story.

I absolutely agree, Harry; this was right up there as one of my favourite games of 2012. I loved the opening of the game when the screen is pure white and you're thinking "what do I do?". The paint mechanism is brilliantly done, I liked the environments and I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

Strangely, I recently downloaded the PS4 version (as it's cross-buy) and I was pretty underwhelmed. I barely noticed any difference to the PS3 version, although I guess that's a compliment on the high quality of the original.

A real gem.

Interestingly, I found an interview with the writer that confirmed what I thought about the ending. Basically they didn't have time and it was very rushed.

Streets of Rage 2. I'm surprised how well it held up.
It's probably my favorite mega drive game.

9/10

Spider-Man Friend or Foe 5/10 Passable co-op brawler, which aside from who you play as, doesn't feel like Spider-man at all.

Pinball: Revenge of the Gator 7/10 Fun pinball game. Much better than NES Pinball.

Quix (Game Boy) 6/10 Always had a soft spot for this puzzler. Enjoyed playing it again while listening to Bardo Pond.

Indeed, FPS, 'Gator is a terrific pinballer and it has stood the test of time remarkably well. The ball physics are decent and there's plenty to do. Great fun!

None* - Windows Phone, Android, iOS. 8/10 - Was good, it is a puzzle type game, you get a hint and you have enter the answer/password and it unlocks the next level. Some are easy some are very brain melt but great fun especially for a free game.

Banjo Kazooie (360) - 8/10

+ Nice chunky graphics
+ Brilliant music and sound effects
+ Some wonderful levels
+ Sense of humour
+ The movement/exploration generally works well

- The camera ranges from good to horrendous
- Some of the levels/challenges just aren't that fun to play, and become more of an annoyance than anything

That has to be the most depressing ending I have ever seen in a video game. And probably one of the best.

The Prime Minister gets away with all that he done. Layton's girlfriend dies a second time (well...). LAYTON'S TEARS AND HAT REMOVAL. Luke leaving. strawberry float. I am now a shell of a human being.

That was a great game.

Definitely, Squint - it has been my fave of the series so far. You've reminded me that I should get back to Miracle Mask!

3 marks to low mate.

Bloodborne was the last game I finsihed. Couldn't get on with the souls games, and even now dark souls 2 just isn't that entertaining.

This was strawberry floating brilliant. Had no idea what was going on...until closer to the end. Only game I've played in years that has made me shout at the tv in relief. When BSB went down for the first time. Jesus Christ is was what gaming is about.

PREY SLAUGHTERED. :datass:
