GRcades Official Ale Thread

This was mentioned in the chat topic a couple of weeks back, but none of us got round to it. I'm right now browsing a site to buy some ales from, and thought it'd be good to know what other people rate before I spend my hard earned cash. See if anyone has similar tastes and the like.

So if you're a fan of the good stuff tell us about it. Where do you buy yours and what do you prefer?

I'll edit the OP with any sites or recommendations people have and have a list of 'members' if it garners enough interest.

Here are my top 5.

:datass: Real Ale.

A local here does this on tap:

It's awesome. I've been to a few CAMRA festivals and got smashed off my tits. 8-) I really miss Sheffield, the pubs were fantastic and lots sold real ale rather than the gooseberry fool most pubs pump out to the mongs.

I wish ale was easily available here.

It's now so bad that pils has become almost synonymous with beer. :(
We don't even have a proper word for ale. :fp:

I have today received an order I made with The Ale Room. I had a quick look on that website and before I knew it had around £30 of ale in my basket :fp:. Upon drinking them I might do a mini review for each of the twelve bottles I now have in my possession.

Great to see somebody from the forum use The Ale Room. That's the site I'm browsing at the moment so would be interested to see which ones you rated.

Anyone going to the Welland Valley Beer Fest this year? It's their tenth anniversary so promises to be a good one and my fifth year on the trot. If you like a good beer fest I honestly think it would be damn hard to beat. The free old school buses that run all day Saturday and take you from pub to pub

I do like a bit of proper beer. Had a bit of Belhaven Best the other week, actually: recommended. Also, Brew Dog is notable if only for the silly names they call their brews. 4am Saint, anyone? Also, standard mention of Caledonian and Deuchars IPA goes here.

I had some Brew Dog beer that was about 15% at a CAMRA do  It actually tasted nice, I probably shouldn't have had a pint of it.

My top 5 beers would be.

1. Dark Star - Revelation
2. Dark Star - original
3. Trapist roch fort 10
4. Dark Star - American Pale Ale
5. Brew Dog - Alice Porter

Although ask me again in a week and it will change.

I'm not a fan of ale at the best of time. Flat warm piss in my opinion. However a nice blonde bier is absolute nectar.

Proof that not all American beers are piss

And again, if more proof were needed.

I like this now and again. It has a floral aroma and tastes a bit melony. Perfect for the summer.

America is really coming up in the world in beer, we have a bar opening that specializes in American bottle beers.

Drinking this right now:

Nice, sweet and golden with a hoppy kick.

Had this earlier:

Bitter enough to get you going but not so bitter that it ruins the taste. Pretty much every Skinners beer is top notch, so if you're ever in Cornwall get as much Skinners on as possible.

America has fantastic beers, it's just we judge them based on the big brand pisswater that we get sent like Budweiser. If America judged us on filth like Carling then they'd think British beer was gooseberry fool.

Pretty much. America has a huge craft brew scene going on. Some of the bigger stuff is good too, like Brooklyn Lager.
