They did a good job with Marston in terms of easing you out of wanting to play as him. It all adds weight to why he seemed so regretful in RDR1. Definitely like Dutch this time around and I'm really intrigued to see how he develops into what he becomes in RDR1.

Other than that, it's hard to remember the ancillary characters from RDR1 as it was so long ago. Definitely going to do a replay of that once I have finished this.

I realised this morning that I am yet to touch the bounty hunter missions, so I'll be starting a few of those tonight.

Totally, I agree with you. It’ll be interesting to see how it goes in the story.

If so it’s not exact a HDR. Switch it off.

Nope, just a standard setup. Think my TV is one of those ones that touts having HDR but isn't the proper thing (HDR8?), I'll double check the settings haven't turned it on or something tonight.

Has anyone managed to rob the doctor's backroom in Valentine completely stealthily? I gave it a few attempts last night and it seems impossible. Best I could manage was a mere $1.50 bounty by lobbing a dynamite in the room, taking the essentials and legging it. I feel like lawmen are always able to identify you regardless of your bandana, clothes etc.

From what I gather, the bandana only works on non-lawmen. Changing your clothes does help though, or at least means it takes the law a little bit longer to ID you and start shootin'!

Because I switch between this and other games I find that I keep forgetting the controls. I keep pulling my gun on people who I want to talk to and once you done that they don't seem to stop running :x :fp: :(

The main thing I don't like about the controls is that sometimes (e.g. robbing a store) you need to hold R2 to aim. More than once I've accidentally shot someone, the funniest being an event in the town you go to in chapter 3 involving the boy being kept prisoner in the gunsmiths. Tied up the shop owner and went to free the boy but blew his head off instead

So I've not read the last 10 pages or played in the last week on RDR2 and the reason is this:

Everytime I am having to flick between some action and talking to someone (usual the person I just saved) I pull my gun on them and I have to fight or die. So I'm stuck either playing a scorched earth approach or like a hermit because the controls are awful so I'd rather not play.

The only thing driving me forward was the hope of selling the damn legendary bear hide.

I tried to save a guy who fell off his horse injured. I had my bear skin on horseback and didnt want to lose it so tried to chase down the other guys horse. Figured I could pop him on that horse, and lasso it from mine to get him to the doc. I accidently put him on the ground. Picked him back up and then randoms blamed me for his injuries and killed me. I respawned and my legendary bear skin was gone.

I think it also suffers the GTA4 curse of trying to give you moral choices and dilemmas when your character tries to be a good badguy and your gameplay is inherently geared to doing bad stuff. Even if it is by bad controls.

Shame. I wanted to like this.

Legendary pelts automatically get delivered to the Trapper if you lose them out and about and/or die. Go get yourself a bear head hat 8-)

Can you kill the Trapper? Is there more than one?

I may have killed someone with what looked like the relevant symbol for a trapper in one of the aforementioned Talk/Aim Gun situations.

Just like the Betting Bottle shooting man. I liked him too.

It's on PS Now and there'll be a free trial I think, if you haven't signed up yet.

I don't get the issues people are having with accidentally shooting people. You holster/unholster your gun with L1, target people with L2 and shoot with R2. I haven't yet seen the option interact with anyone by pressing R2 - is this a thing?

This whole drawing a gun on someone mid convo bullshit is your own fault. Its happened to me once in 20 hours of playing it and that was with some randomer wanting to bum a lift to Strawberry and it only happened because I had my pistol drawn at the time.

Got attacked by some wolves... the visible effects didn't last too long, but damn this was cool:

I love the lore that's in the letters you find in random places. There's not as many of them as you'd get in an Elder Scrolls game, but I feel like they're done so much better. It's not a typical Rockstar thing either. Some of them are very personal and even emotional, while other give you a much better understanding of the situations going on in the game world.

I’m not having an issue with drawing my gun on people but the controls really are frustrating me. I don’t understand why they made some of the decisions they did. The item wheel in particular is just badly designed.

Just spent ages creating a dapper as strawberry float custom outfit for Arthur. Love the look of him as I stroll around St Denis in my new gear.

Also just finished C3, really really great, the performances and writing are really good. Looking forward to seeing where the story goes now. Definitely GOTY for me.

Seeing some of your pics I'm seriously considering binning the Tom Selleck moustache rule and embracing the mountain man beard look :datass:

Gonna have to get myself some hair tonic to speed that gooseberry fool up :shifty:

How helpful is it, with regards to story and references, to play the first game before playing this?
