If only Rockstar had enough money to allow their staff to work more reasonable hours :( . The management should get some kind of award for making the team work so hard.

Don't think that's something you want to be boasting about.

I'm so glad everyone is calling them out on this at least

Just saw someone on ResetEra say "Over 7 days that's 14 hours per day, which isn't too insane". What. :slol: :fp:

Who was it here that said if anyone in his team didn't do extra work for free he tried to get rid of them?

Does he work for Rockstar?

I presume that was the past few months only, it tends to happen for most releases.

I've no doubt when it ships and rakes in all the cash that they'll get bonus's and what have ya.

btw, this is apparently 88gb on Xbox.

Neither of those are justifications. It's an industry-wide problem but Rockstar are especially notorious for it.

It's an unacceptable industry practice. Hopefully they are well compensated for it financially, but that doesn't alter the significant health risks from working that many hours a week.

If it was one or two weeks as an extremely occasional one off it wouldn't be so bad but considering this is Rockstar, I suspect it's been happening a lot more than that.

Not everyone can sell 95 million copies of one game while also making a killing out of the online version.

If Rockstar had done that, I’m sure they’d hire a few more staff so that people don’t get worked to death.

This Twitter thread makes a good point. Unionisation of development staff will potentially only happen with the support and pressure of the buying public.

Good luck with that, xXxcuntbroxXx only cares about his shiny new game and this will be forgotten about by most once the game is out and the 10/10 are dished out with review taglines of "woahhh, just how DO Rockstar do it like no other can?!?" (this is how)

I love how IGN did an article summarising the interview the Houser stuff was from and managed to mention everything except the working hours comments, no mention of that at all. gooseberry fool rag.

And remember, this is literally the only way to make games that are any good.

Highlighting to the world that you've got your staff breaking their backs working 100 hour weeks like it's somehow a good thing.

Twat gamers defending it because "It's Rockstar innit, theys well good"

:fp:

This industry, and the community that surround it is frankly depressing at times.

Did a 100 hour week once. Don't recommend it.

The way you interact with the world and it's characters sounds incredibly organic and natural. I've read several previews where they try to compare it to other open world games and their mechanics and they really struggle to describe the mechanics that are behind everything.

Think I'm going to spend more time messing around with NPCs in the town's rather than focusing on the main objective, which I suppose goes for most Rockstar games.
