Got ambushed by a gang of topless rednecks in the woods outside Annesbury, was so busy focussing on shooting the ones with rifles that I didn't see the ones with knives until they were on me, stuck me like a pig woooohoooo listen to him squeal boys!

Oh and I also had a very cool encounter with these other rednecks in the Annesbury area. I'd set up camp in the woods and gone to sleep, when I woke up and left my tent these 2 guys pitched up, one of them put a gun to my head whilst the other one warned me to stay away from these parts. They then both backed away and left my campsite, so I naturally walked after them and killed them both, to which Arthur called out "how about I camp where I want?"

Was cool.

I've only just started the epilogue before a bug broke its first mission. I really think they missed a great opportunity to do something interesting with it by not switching the action to Sadie rather than John. We know John's future and don’t need to see how he started up his farm. Sadie was instrumental to John and his family escaping, could clearly hold her own against anyone who might try to stop her, and would ultimately be way more satisfying to play as for hunting down Micah.

The length is putting me off finishing it ahead of a multitude of other games I have on the go right now.

I think this has well out stayed it's welcome for me. Admittedly I had to leave it for a week while on holiday, but the thought of getting back into it in a major way is just unappealing. I'll burn through to the end of the story at least but I'd be surprised if I get drawn into doing much more. There's too much repetition in what it has you doing and for all the detail in the world and small little touches that make it feel alive some of the basic gameplay design is pretty embarrassingly outdated. Maybe I'll feel different after a few more sessions back with it but as things stand I've done a 720 on this.

Feel the same - just went to have a go after a couple of weeks of not playing, patch required but it won’t start downloading. After half an hour I cancel the patch and it ends up uninstalling the whole game. Now need to do the whole 90gb install from scratch. Not sure it’s worth effort!

I haven't been able to play this as much as I hoped but I'm struggling to really determine how much I enjoy it. I feel I spend most of my time being impressed by the graphics, world and level of detail while at the same time not really having that much....fun.

Yep, I feel the same way. I got distracted by Diablo 3 and it broke the rhythm I had with the game. I was never absolutely hooked on it anyway, merely playing an hour or so of it and then an hour or so of Destiny.

Playing Diablo 3 was like the opposite of this. It's fast-paced, boombastic constantly through enemies and upgrades at you. It's immediate, it's tactile and it's perfect for short blasts and addictive enough to keep you playing.

This just sort of feels even more slow and ponderous now. The open world is beautiful, but I don't find it has those hooks in me, like BOTW did, where I would just constantly be distracted by something on the horizon. At the back of my head I'm always thinking "bet it's awkward to climb over there" or "bet it takes bloody ages to get back to camp to return these pelts from here". Movement and traversal in BOTW was much better than here, which made exploration much more of a pleasure.

It's not a bad game by any stretch, but I do feel that your engagement with the open world is about 90% down to how much you enjoy the hunting and crafting. I don't feel like there's much else to do. Sure, you find the odd building or hut with a little set piece, but that's not enough for me, to make me want to venture out miles from your camp or the next mission marker.

I already feel that urge to just do mission afger mission - the same urge that hit me in GTA IV, V and the original RDR. Problem is, the missions aren't even that great either. It's purely the story that's going to see me through the end.

I still haven't finished Chapter 2 either. I must have put the game down for close to 3 weeks.

Yeah, glad I rushed through the story now. Trying the online and it's just full of griefers.

Story kept me going but definitely started to outstay it’s welcome toward the end. Peaked at chapters 3-5 for me. I enjoyed the late game stuff purely for the characters. Actual missions were poor

Yeah, I'm struggling with this. There's clearly a very good game here, but it's just too much to take in and huge in scope. I put maybe an hour or so in at a time, but find very little to keep me wanting more. The hunting stuff is really not very interesting, and the whole perfect skin pelt is idiotic. I did a quick search to see the best way to get a perfect pelt and the amount of information was ludicrous. I'm I think in Chapter 3 at present and am finding it hard to really have a good go on it. There seems a lot to do, but none of it actually seems very fun at all.

Compared with the first one which I loved and happily played for hours at a time, this is a bit of a drag unfortunately. It looks incredible and the world is very impressive, but it's nothing more than a 6/10 for me (at present).

It seems like the more depth and detail they added to the hunting, the less and less enjoyable it’s become.

I think I am 1/3 way into Chapter Four and it is still great. :D

I got very quickly turned off the hunting that isn't accompanied with a secondary character by how annoying hunting rabbits is.

I might eventually try to do all the legendary animals but that's about it.

Because depth isn't just about adding systems on top of systems. Or by making stuff finicky, awkward or time consuming.

Nothing best sums up RDR2's love of systems than the Core system. They are just a mess in almost every way. What's the point in them? They don't add any fun, they aren't immersive or realistic (I'll just chomp down on this can o'beans in a firefight die to their well-known bullethole-filling) and even the way they are presented on screen and give feedback to the player is a visual mess.

I don't have as much of an issue with the core gameplay as most but the mission design is definitely starting to wear thin as I come to what I assume is the end. There's been a handful of really uninteresting missions in chapter 6 that could have been condensed into 1 or 2. For the most part though, I've loved my time with the game, and I say that as someone who went in pretty much prepared to bash it after being especially underwhelmed with Rockstar's writing for their last few games (even returning to RDR1 a couple of months ago, it's not as strong as I remember). The writing is still guilty of being overwrought much of the time, but it's easily overlooked when most of it is so sincere compared to their previous efforts, I'm really hoping they take this style into the next GTA because if it's just another exercise in flinging half-arsed attempts at satire at the wall and seeing what sticks then I'll be disappointed.

It's funny how the trailers led everyone to believe Arthur wouldn't match up to Marston, because he totally eclipses him in every way. He's Geralt levels of great leading man. The scene in chapter 6 where he admits he's afraid of dying got me.

The way this game wrestles control away from you as it tries to be cinematic and force you into it’s pre-canned animations is strawberry floating infuriating. I was kind begrudgingly accepting of it early on while there was still some wonder in the world and I was willing to let the game lead me by the hand but now I’m just trying to get through it and it’s absolu intolerable. It literally feels like someone else is using another controller to move Arthur in the exact opposite direction to you.
