Today we're happy to announce that Red Dead Redemption will be released as part of Microsoft’s Xbox One Backward Compatibility program this coming Friday, July 8th.

Starting on Friday, every Red Dead Redemption Xbox 360 owner will be able to play the game directly on their Xbox One, regardless of which version of the game they own (Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare and Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition). And for those who have yet to experience it, the game will be available to purchase on Friday from the Games Store on Xbox One.

Stay tuned to the Newswire for more details.

I love the bit of the press release where they go 'if you haven't already played it, you can buy it!'.

Anyone else get all  /  as they read the thread title? (Y'know because, like me, you thought the thread was going to be about RDR sequel or a whisper it remaster.)

It's currently £6.24 (Gold price) or £8.74 in the Xbox Live sale.

This is probably the one game I'd be happy to see a remaster of, so long as it came with a PC release like GTA 5.

And what about Red Dead 3?

Surely they have to unveil it soon.

There's also been chatter of GTA V story DLC. So yeah, take your pick as to what gets announced next.

Very little chance of a remaster now that this is BC, Skyrim, Arkham games, Dishonored and Bioshock never made it to BC.

Gears Of War, Saints Row IV, Castle Crashers, Shadow Complex and Castlestorm say hi.

Great news but I can see this being like the new Mirrors Edge in that people will ask for it constantly but as soon as it happens, know one will actually play it.

You'll need to sign in to buy it.

I will certainly play this on X1, hoping for some load time improvments because honestly, I played this a month ago on 360 and it looks gorgeous still.

My lasting memory of this game was how dull it was and that it suffered from a lot of the same problems as GTA IV.

It's a bit late for GTA V DLC now, isn't it?

I thought they'd cancelled it due to success of GTA Online, but one of the co-lead character actors teased he was working on it a while back. He could have been trolling, I guess.
