Going through a spot of rough seas with the other half at the moment. She feels she can't communicate with me because I always try to explain away my actions, and I'm repeatedly putting my foot in it by trying to do exactly that.

Because my mums partner does that, he always tries to justify his stance instead of admitting he was on the wrong and sometimes it's like watching a slow motion car crash

A neighbour of mine is like this. There have been times when he and his partner are arguing in front of me that I have to give him subtle signs telling him to just stop. He just doesn't recognise when his missus isn't interested in hearing it and is incredibly awkward. Sometime partners just want you to accept responsibility for your actions and are less interested in your reasoning. Chances are they'll ask for the latter if they actually want it.

I'm kind of the opposite in that respect. Rather than laying blame I'm more interested in the why.

Eventually you learn that it isn't about how many disagreements you 'win', just which ones.

My mum's partner just often doesn't admit he's in the wrong, he'll get stressy with people because his work is incredibly stressful, but instead of apologising and doing something more productive to channel his anger into and de-stress he's just like "Yeah but I was stressed because of work"

Just checking in to let everyone know my wedding went very well and I'm now enjoying sunning myself on honeymoon.
