So I bought an engagement ring at the weekend.

Gonna propose to her a week on Saturday.
I've got the day all planned out as well.
Go see Black Panther, Dinner, Bill Bailey gig, nice walk after gig and then an overnight in a lovely hotel.

Planning on doing the actual proposal on the "nice walk" segment, but I'm working on an alternative if the weather is gooseberry fool.

I'm simultaneously thrilled and shitting it.

Wait. You booked a pricey hotel? Can you get a refund if she says no?

Probably not. It wasn't that pricey to be honest (£120 for the night, with breakfast), but I wouldn't be this far along if I had any expectation of her saying no.

So I'll see you all in a couple of weeks talking about how badly it's all gone.

Nah, it's the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow. Pretty nice, businessy type hotel. Been there a few times over the years for various things and it's nice. You get a lot of celebrities staying there, partially because it's right next to the three big gig venues (SECC, Armadillo and the Hydro). Last time I was in I saw the Osmonds. Pretty sure my mum saw Arnie in there years ago as well. Big tall building, looking out over the Clyde, right across from the BBC and STV. So I know what I'm in for there.

I did consider doing something "games" related actually. She's a big Skyrim fan so I was considering making a custom quest line for her where she has to find some magic ring or something and having the proposal be built into that.

But ultimately I decided to go for a more traditional "Treat her" day-out idea.

Nah. I felt that doing it that way would be more for me than it would be for her. Plus it would mean doing it in the living room which lacks a romantic touch.

I have always been a wedding sceptic, but Saturday was genuinely the best day of my life! I cannot believe just how perfect it was.
