Because they disapprove of you?

Now why do you have to go and assume that?

Because I am your father in law and I know what a scumbag you are.

I went with the "Just so you know, I'm planning on asking her to marry me and I hope you're happy about that" approach.

I feel it would be slightly insulting to actually ask permission.

So turns out the reason that girl I'm dating is so shy/awkward is because she has agoraphobia and at one point didn't leave her house for over year.

I wish she'd told me sooner. In retrospect it makes sense why she looked so uncomfortable when I took her for icecream and the place was packed, I thought she just didn't like her icecream :slol:

Has anyone here had any experience with agoraphobia?

Yeah, I'm glad I didn't take some of the advice on here.

Not that people weren't trying to be helpful, but when someone has gone through something like that you can't really treat them like you would everyone else.

I knew something was up, but she wouldn't ever tell me, guess she was afraid of scaring me off or something.

At least it shows she trusts you since she's talked about it, yeah?

You don't always have to strawberry float her hard, in fact sometimes that's not right to do.

If she's crazy then that is all the more reason to let her down gently, rather than risk her murdering your entire family. If she does go mental then you can always say hey I bought you flowers!
