Carter Page's memory seems to be coming back.

Apparently he did meet with Russian government officials in July 2016, and he did tell the campaign when he got back.

He has the best words. So stood in Japan, a country in which America killed around 140,000 people in 1945, when it dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the President said about the US military “Every once in a while, in the past, they underestimated us. It was not pleasant for them, was it?” :fp:

Did you really expect him to behave, well, like a president?

He's going to be in Vietnam at some point on this jaunt, imagine what he'll say there. :dread:

WASHINGTON — Federal investigators have gathered enough evidence to bring charges in their investigation of President Donald Trump's former national security adviser and his son as part of the probe into Russia's intervention in the 2016 election, according to multiple sources familiar with the investigation.

Michael T. Flynn, who was fired after just 24 days on the job, was one of the first Trump associates to come under scrutiny in the federal probe now led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into possible collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign.

Mueller is applying renewed pressure on Flynn following his indictment of Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, three sources familiar with the investigation told NBC News.

If the elder Flynn is willing to cooperate with investigators in order to help his son, two of the sources said, it could also change his own fate, potentially limiting any legal consequences.

I'll share these in here too:
Commerce Secretary’s Offshore Ties to Putin ‘Cronies’
Wilbur Ross, the commerce secretary, retained investments in a shipping firm with business ties to Russian President Vladimir V. Putin’s inner circle.

After becoming commerce secretary, Wilbur L. Ross Jr. retained investments in a shipping firm he once controlled that has significant business ties to a Russian oligarch subject to American sanctions and President Vladimir V. Putin’s son-in-law, according to newly disclosed documents.

The shipper, Navigator Holdings, earns millions of dollars a year transporting gas for one of its top clients, a giant Russian energy company called Sibur, whose owners include the oligarch and Mr. Putin’s family member. Despite selling off numerous other holdings to join the Trump administration and spearhead its “America first” trade policy, Mr. Ross kept an investment in Navigator, which increased its business dealings with Sibur even as the West sought to punish Russia’s energy sector over Mr. Putin’s incursions into Ukraine.

Russia funded Facebook and Twitter investments through Kushner associate
Institutions with close links to Kremlin financed stakes through business associate of Trump’s son-in-law, leaked files reveal

Two Russian state institutions with close ties to Vladimir Putin funded substantial investments in Twitter and Facebook through a business associate of Jared Kushner, leaked documents reveal.

The investments were made through a Russian technology magnate, Yuri Milner, who also holds a stake in a company co-owned by Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior White House adviser.

The discovery is likely to stir concerns over Russian influence in US politics and the role played by social media in last year’s presidential election. It may also raise new questions for the social media companies and for Kushner.

Alexander Vershbow, who was a US ambassador to Russia under George W Bush and to Nato under Bill Clinton, said the Russian state institutions were frequently used as “tools for Putin’s pet political projects”.

Vershbow said the findings were concerning in light of efforts by Moscow to disrupt US democracy and public debate. “There clearly was a wider plan, despite Putin’s protestations to the contrary,” he said.

The investments are detailed in the Paradise Papers, a trove of millions of leaked documents reviewed by the Guardian, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and other partners, along with other previously unreported filings.

Facebook and Twitter were not made aware that funding for the investments came from the state-controlled VTB Bank and a financial arm of the state oil and gas firm Gazprom, according to Milner. A spokesman for Kushner declined to comment.

The files show that in 2011, VTB funded a $191m investment in Twitter. About the same time, Gazprom Investholding financed an opaque offshore company, which in turn funded a vehicle that held $1bn-worth of Facebook shares.

There's been a mass shooting in a Texas church this morning, also involving children. The shooter is dead but apparently he was in "full gear", whatever that means.

Looks like a really bad one: anywhere from 20 to 30 dead by the sounds of it. On average there are around 50 in a congregation, so possibly half murdered.

Sad thing is I've run out of things to really write or say about these events.

It's depressing that nothing will change and any arguments to do anything will be treated as a partisan attack on the second amendment.

Just announced at a press conference 27 dead, rest of the congregation injured to varying extents (around 24). Was wearing full military regalia.

The same people who call for outright banning an entire religious group from entering the US due to very isolated acts of terror will no doubt continue to reject any attempt at common sense gun laws in response to these almost daily mass shootings and thousands of dead Americans. An utterly ridiculous situation, what a waste of lives.

Oh I forgot, too soon to talk about it you liberal commie!

I read this interesting opinion article this morning about the unreported aftermath for the victims who survive these shootings,

http://news.sky.com/story/sky-views-pro ... e-11114247

But Kim has been left paralysed by her injuries.

As the New York Times reported, she was recently told of all of the equipment she will need to continue her treatment at home.

The list included "an expensive wheelchair, a re-modelled bathroom, a new car and a way to run her business and pay a mortgage".

They quoted the man giving her this list: "You know, your insurance will probably not cover any of this."

Even if you're lucky enough to survive these attacks, sometimes the injuries will still destroy your life just because you live in America, whilst living in any other civilised country you could live a relatively normal life.

I mean honestly I'm just emotionless now when a shooting is announced. I'm not in the slightest shocked.

"Now is not the time" is an absolutely brilliant concept as the regularity of these shootings mean there is never an appropriate time to discuss gun control.
