The temptation must be almost overwhelming to tell him a load of bullshit just to see if he repeats it.

"Tremendous news folks, we have captured Adolf Hitler (BAD!) and are going to put him on trial in our new ABOVE WATER city of Atlantis. Don't believe the FAKE NEWS, this is actually happening".

While not illegal, this kind of thing could be seen as a breach of his oath of office and a basis for impeachment:

Doesn't help that it involves Russia again too

Imagine what Republicans would be saying if Obama or Clinton did all this stuff...

But that just means we are back to whether his own party would impeach him. I don't think they would, or at least they wouldn't for something like this, it would take something much bigger.

But it is only Tuesday, there is plenty of time for him to strawberry float up more bigly over the rest of the week.

What's amusing me - he doesn't have the absolute right IIRC. He just can't get past that...ever.

The President can choose to declassify things - but through a process, not just when he wants to open his mouth.

Also it's very different (I believe) for information another country has provided, but indicated is classified.

Edit: it's been 20 minutes and the next bit is yet to appear.

Final edit: someone take his phone? Over half an hour and no second part of that tweet.

FAKE NEWS.

Failing CNN says that he can reveal classified information whenever he wishes without going through a process or breaking the law.

http://edition.cnn.com/2017/05/15/polit ... formation/

Garth is right that it could lead to impeachment, but no actual law has been broken as the President is supposed to be able to be trusted with secrets and have the judgement to know when to reveal them.

The Republican party is an absolute shambles and I honestly don't think they have any Idea how idiotic they all look. Paul Ryan has virtually ruined his reputation.

:slol: This is amazing. Amazing. I mean, he's not even pretending any more. Jesus Christ. I mean, just think about the logistics of this: the report comes out. The WH, someone in the WH, makes the decision to roll out surrogates to deny deny deny. McMaster, the National Security Advisor, states unequivocally that this. Did. Not. Happen.

Cut to a few hours later and the President of the United States, apparently without contacting anyone, reaches for his phone and admits that it. Did. Happen. I mean, what was going through his mind at that point? Apart from rage and a general feeling of persecution? Anything? Any consideration at all?

Just...amazing.

Maybe he doesn’t realise that other people can read his tweets? He might think that it is just an app on his phone that he can write notes in? :slol:

A senior European intelligence official tells The Associated Press that his country might stop sharing information with the United States if it confirms President Donald Trump shared classified details with Russian officials.

The official said Tuesday that doing so “could be a risk for our sources.”

The official spoke only on condition that neither he nor his country be identified, because he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

Also:
A senior German lawmaker has expressed concern about reports that President Donald Trump revealed highly classified information about the Islamic State group to Russian officials.

Burkhard Lischka said in a statement to The Associated Press that “if it proves to be true that the American president passed on internal intelligence matters that would be highly worrying.”

Lischka, who sits on the German parliament’s intelligence oversight committee, noted that Trump has access to “exclusive and highly sensitive information including in the area of combating terrorism.”

The Social Democratic Party lawmaker said that if the U.S. president “passes this information to other governments at will, then Trump becomes a security risk for the entire western world.”

Germany is heavily dependent on U.S. intelligence.

Unsurprisingly, the Russians lied too, lol:
The Kremlin has dismissed reports that Donald Trump shared classified information with Russian officials last week as “complete nonsense.”

The Washington Post’s report on Monday claimed that the revelation made by Trump during his meeting with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov put a source of intelligence on the Islamic State at risk.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday dismissed the reports as “yet more nonsense” and said that Moscow doesn’t “want to have to do anything with it,” adding that “there is nothing to confirm or deny.”

Forget European countries not being able to trust him with secrets.

Forget the US itself not being able to trust the President with secrets.

It’s getting to the stage that even the countries that he reveals secrets to cannot trust he’ll keep his mouth shut about it.

But given that it wasn't US intelligence but something which had been passed to them from another nation I would expect the classification owner to be the only ones who could reduce or remove the classification.

Either way it's all troubling stuff.

GOP Rep. Calls on Trump to Share Transcripts
Mike Gallagher wants the president to let congressional intelligence committees review the conversation with Russian officials.

Wisconsin representative Mike Gallagher, an intelligence officer by training, called for the administration to share records of the meeting with lawmakers on intelligence panels in the House and Senate.

"For the purpose of transparency, the White House should share a transcript of the meeting with the House and Senate intelligence committees," he wrote early Tuesday.

The transcript of the meeting was "limited to a small circle," and controversial parts of the meeting were removed from internal memos, the Washington Post reported.

"I know firsthand the life and death implications of safeguarding classified information," he wrote. "Our allies and partners must have the utmost confidence that sensitive information they share with us will not be disclosed."

Gallagher also warned more broadly against working with Russia to fight terrorism, something Trump has said he wants to do.
